My city-run Utility company recently(4-5 months ago) sent out a flyer announcing their new "round up" program. They will round YOUR utility bill up to the next dollar and use the money generated to pay the utility bills of the "needy". If you do not want to participate you are required to fill the back of the flyer out and bring it to the office.
For now I won't go into the issue of who determines need or the great likelyhood that greedy scum will abuse the program, and go right to the ethical and legal problem I have with the method of collecting.
This program is set up to default to taking your money. I have already met someone who, several months into the program, just noticed that they were "donating". They, like many others removed their bill and tossed the "junk" in the envelope in the trash. I think this falls under "silence as acceptance" and is not only unethical but illegal. I am curious as to the possibility of bringing a class action against the city.

I was surprised to see that when I visited England and went to the coach station first time and wondered why it was. I saw white people in the city and can't remember if I saw black people very often but I always did at such a place.

Why is it? I could not know in my short visit.

That is all they seem to do. No solutions, just 'liberal this' and 'neo con that'. It happens in Yahoo! Answers all the time and on every friggin blog that has anything to do with politics (examples below).

Do you think we will ever be the America we used to be when the parties could at least DISCUSS a middle ground?

Israel at this point could make any excuses it wants. What I think they're planning to do is actually to invade south Lebanon in order to expand like they did to Palestinians. After what happened today, if they continue attacking...It means that they have no God! (An opinion from someone who's not Muslim!)

all that's left to do is move further north and take over the whole usa

i posted a question 3 hrs ago (in 3 categories) about the today masacre by israel in qana (lebanon) , i joint it with links about that masacre from BBC , terrible pics show the israel attack at civilians in lebanon , links to the 1996 qana masacre .

when i looked at the answers i was shocked , almost no one cried over the childeren died and the beautifull country destroyed . they only have another comments , that they deserve it !!! that weird idea based on a very idiotic thoughts came directly from israel , and just believed without even thinking :

1- "hezboullah hide in civilian places ,so If you are dumb enough to hidenext to a rocket launching site , expect to get bombed" !!!!!!
you answered yourself , how can civilians be dump enough to hide next to a rocket launching site in that brutal war , where everything is a target? so that is an evidence that israeli's propaganda is a lie , very clear

I am a black, and not of American origin. I am seriously ashamed of Condoleezza Rice's stance in the affairs of the Middle East and elsewhere in the world. It looks odd to me to be seeing her, as a black American woman, therefore from a minority group, agree with Bush's racist policies abroad. Her job would have best befitted those hawks and warmongers like let's say Donald Rumsfeld.

She's supporting the Israelis in their apartheid ways, occupation of Arab lands, oppression of the Palestinian lands, etc. Iraq.

It makes me feel guilty as a blackman to see her trotting around ,
agreeing with Israel's methods, which are nothing short of state terrorism.

As an intellect and very smart woman, she should not have given her name and face to all of the Bushisms going on. She should have remained an academic person.

USA is the greatest terrorist in the world. Perhaps you remember that back in 1991 a very powerfull country, more powerfull than the USA was collapsed. This was the mightest country in the world at that time known as the USSR, better known as the Soviet Union. Perhaps you have read in history, the USSR was the first country to launch an artifitial satelite into space and send the first human being in space named Yuri Gagarin. Now that country is none other than Russia. The Soviet Union was the only one who had challenged the USA in everything. The USA used the poor Afghans as terrorists to creat problems in the Soviet Union, this is the reason why the Soviets attacked Afghanistan in 1979. Now Afghanistan is in ruins due to the bloody Americans. George Bush is a Devil. The USSR was a heaven. Because of the Soviet Union, many African colonies got their freedom in the 1960's and India also got her freedom as the British were afraid of the Soviet Union i.e. the USSR.
The USA and UK are the root of all problems in this world. They must be destroyed. The Muslims and Isrealis are not to be blamed. First the bloody capitalists must be destroyed from the world. The USA is the country of the Devil. The Americans are playing with the rights of the people of this world. They have corrupted India and many under-developed and developing countries and have won the race against the mighty Soviet Union.
Remember, COMMUNISM is everything. We the people of the East must destroy the West now or else every country will suffer like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, N.Korea, Isreal and Lebanon are right now.

i would definetley (spell check) be afraid of the future. who knows what our future presidents are going to be like. what if all this crap in the mid-east didn't stop? i would never get to go there. that's my hometown! what about laws? what if the laws were to bend a little? then we'd have more crimes and crooks! and then God would get mad because of what we're doing and He will create a big disaster like an earthquake or tsunami. doesn't all that sound scary!?!?! tell me what you think.

if so why?

If this isn't the case why do they support israel's over agressive attacks which have needlessly killed lebabnese civilians and 4 U.N members on purpose after the people responsible were told that the U.N people were still in harms way. Why oh why oh why?

I'm not a history buff (and I know the UK is responsible for creating the agressive israel today) but I know that big wars don't just happen over night but happen slowly after a series of events.

I think it was. We now know (and our leaders knew at the time) that Iraq did not possess WMDs. Thus, Saddam was not an imminent threat. Some have suggested that his removal destabilized the entire region. In hindsight, l wonder whether this was a smart thing to do. I guess that I come down on the side that it's never smart to start a war predicated on a lie because, eventually, the people find out about the lie and it destroys morale and erodes support for the war.
