Check other personal documents that may have his ss number like job id, cell phones, car and life insurance, etc.

I was in the military 1970-1974 and many of my records disappeared. If you have his discharge papers, or DD-214 make a copy and send it to the DOD for other records

If they are telling you they can't find it through is ssn they are not telling you the truth. If your husband is a vet they have his ssn, along with finger printers and everything else. Did you ask them at the veterans administration? Go to the Dav if you can't get answers.

Contact your local recruiters office. They will be able to direct you. And if they tell you that they can't they are lying. I went through the same thing when I lost my records!!!!
