Well as everyone knows I am getting a hamster.I went to the pet store to check out hamsters and the black bear hamsters are voted the best species to get. I have a syrain and he gets along with all species of hamsters. I was wondering do black bears get along with syrains

my female black shorthair hamster has been wierd... i notice that after only a day after really cleaning her cage well, her cage smells horrible... and she always stuffs her food in her mouth and brings it into her "nest"... she used to be @ a good weight, and i could not feel her ribs, but now i can...her urine smells horrible... i feed her regular hamster food seed and all that, melon, strawberry, broccoli, carrots,, lettuce, grapes... PLZZZZ!!!! help me! i used tohave a male hamster, and he was fine... ate fine, healthy, good smell... i luv my hamster soooo much... wat is wrong? also , i hav a cat and a dog that scare her alot, and my hamster is very timid, and the slightest kissy noise makes her shake... could this smell she has and bad eating be from stress?she has fresh well water, and i clean her cage once a week... she has a crittertrail outlook cage... someone PLEASE HELP!!! i really appreciate it!

I might get gerbils soon and I have 3 questions about them. Here it goes.
1. Do they live better in pairs? If so, which pairs are better, males or females?
2. Would a cage like this one http://www.petco.com/product/8304/Coast-Cages-Condos-for-Hamsters-or-Mice.aspx be good for two of them?
3. Do gerbils chew everything up?

ok i REALLY want a hamster!! when iasked my mom and presented my "hamster Report" (a bunch of stuff about hmsters showing i could take of one) she said NO that my rabbit was enough......we rent our house and she is afraid it will get out. But if i did everything right it wouldnt, right? (lol i confused myself just typing that!!!!) What should i do?? just say ok and try again later? do more to convience her? or just dont say anything?

i decided that i would like more rats (not a hard choice!) instead of buying them in a pet store, or at a rattery, as there aren't any very close to me. i decided to check on craigslist. i made the mistake of finding this one woman who said that her rats were from a loving home and she didn't want to see them as snake food. i got there and the cage was filthy, the rats were hiding in there hammock which i didn't think anything of because it was in the early evening. i took them home, and there as wild as can be.... its clear to me they were never handled, and if they were with bad treatment. they're over a year and very dependant on each other. i tried trust training with good advice and from reputable help, but with no avail they are just as scared ad the day i brought them home. (6/12/07)
i have placed them in separate cages tonight and i'm going to re-start the trust training again.... does anyone have any suggestions about these poor girls?
i hope this is enough information.

About how much time??
about how much time daily do u need to devote to a hamster- when school starts i will have a total of about 2 hours free time during the week and that is if :

i get home @3 hw for 2 hours, play with my bunny for an hour, eat dinner (gave myself an hour) , and then i go to bed at 9 so that leaves me at 2 hours or maybe a lil more or a lil less depending



About how much time a day do u have to devote to a hamster???

I Have A Hamster And He Is Really Cute and Playful! But When I stick My hand In His Cage He bites Me! And I Wash My Hands Before I Try Holding Him and i Have Had Him For About 4-5 Weeks So What do you think I could do to get him to play with me and Not bite! This is my third one tonight. Today I went to different pet store, twice!! This store cared for and loved the rats. Any way, I slowly put my hand in with the rats and two of them (one full grown tan and white, one black and white, not as old) and they sat up on thier hind legs and smelled all the way up to the top of were my arm came into the cage. I know that these are good signs of handling and personality, but they would put there mouths around me. Kind of like a bite. They would start to bite down and i would flinch away, and they would flinch, but i would stick my hand in again, and they would do it again! Is that okay in finding a good rat, and will a rat stop that once I take it home?

I am babysitting my neighbor's guinea pig. Today i was holding it and i heard it chewing on something and it sounded hard. I open it's mouth and saw blood and i'm pretty sure it's to oth fell out and that's what it was chewing.Should I take it to they vet? HELP!

I have a piggy that bites me when I put my hand in his cage. Ive had him for about 3 months, and he used to let me pick him up no problem, but now he bites me when i lift him and try to put him on my shirt. Why has he started biting when he never did to begin with? How do I tame? he squeeks very loud and very often and hops up and down in quick little jumps. Is he ok?

We were given a glider's cage and it needs a scrubbing & we'd like to give it a fresh coat of paint. What type of paint will be okay regarding their health, in case they chew on it, etc??
