I know how you feel. Luckily, I have some tips that may help you. It sounds like a cold or allergy. If you or anybody else in your family has the cold, you may have transmitted the cold to your hamster. If you use cedar bedding, than this is an allergic reaction.
To solve the problem of a cold, keep your hamster in a warm place. Feed him this mixture:
-1 tbsp of lukewarm milk
-1 tbsp of lukewarm water
-1 tsp of honey
Mix this until the honey is distributed evenly, and feed this to your hamster through a syringe without a needle. Only let a bit of the mixture into his mouth at a time so that you don't drown him.
If you don’t have a syringe without a needle, then you can use a small straw such as a juicbox straw. Fill the straw with the lukewarm mixture and place your finger on the top of the straw so that it doesn’t drip. When you want to put it into your hamsters mouth, simply lift your finger a tiny bit when its mouth is on the straw.
If you are using cedar bedding, change it to a safe bedding such as Carefresh. If you have no extra bedding availiable use toilet paper or shredded paper.
I hope this can help your hamster to get better!
Feel free to email me any time at katrina_649@yahoo.ca if you have any other questions or concerns about your hammy, and I'll be happy to help. :)

Oh come on, it is not expensive to have a hamster treated at a vets! They're small animals, and the bills are proportionate to this!
You can afford it - it will probably cost no more than your monthly internet bill.
You can't treat small animals - or any animals for that matter - at home, so stop with this 'can't afford the vet' stuff, and get the animal the help it needs. Respiratory infections kill hamsters much faster than they kill cats and dogs.

well it is probably the bedding.... try switching to a differnt bedding.. some have too much dust in them...
my hamster did that the first time i brought him home... i had gotten him the grey carefresh... and he was sneezing so then i got the white carefresh [ a few bucks more .. but totally worth it] and its is CAREFRESH ULTRA so its softer and he hasnt been sneezing as often
try that first and see what happens [ it may take a few days after you switch the bedding though for him to stop]

What bedding are you using? Try him on papertowels for a while and see if that helps. If you are using cedar or pine...stop right away, as many hamsters are allergic to those beddings. Get carefresh or aspen bedding.
Make sure there is no one smoking around your hamster or that you are not burning incense or smelly candles next to him. That could be the cause too.
On a side note. When you buy an animal, please make sure you are able to provide FULL care for them. It's unfair to the animal if you cannot provide vet care if they are sick.
I hope everything goes ok....
