It should be very clear that we have more in common with Europe.

Europeans wouldn't accept an infant mortality rate comparable to a developing country (see link below) or the levels of poverty revealed by Katrina.

Even when the Americans try to do the right thing they lack the intellectual capacity to get it right (Iraq/Afghanistan).

I'm sick of the video clips the news teams play.
What important content is being hidden from the public & why?
Osama's message was to all Americans. I feel I have a right to know in full what he said not just part of it.
I heard that the Osama video is at least 30 min.
Besides most videos are longer than the 30 second to 1 minute as shown on TV.

has this whole McCann thing cost the British tax payer? i mean through police protection, police escorts ect.....

Should the money raised for the 'find maddie fund' be paid back to the treasury if they are found guilty of any wrong doing?

This is a genuine Q - not about poking the McCanns or suggesting they are guilty or innocent.

But wouldn't it be a good idea to get the campaign manager to do their job promoting finding Maddy and not work as just a spokesperson or behind the scenes?

The fund should distance itself a bit and work independently (on Maddy's behalf) from Kate and Gerry while they sort out the suspect status - that is what I am suggesting here.

Yahoo should make a "McCann" forum for all the people obsessed about it.

are innocent of murdering their Madeleine?
1. 'cos theres no proof they did.
2. 'cos of the way they strive to spread awareness of their Madeleine with no regard to the flak & scrutiny hurled against them.
3. 'cos till now there is no little body found in spite of experts, sniffer dogs & the worldwide pressure on the PJ.
4. 'cos there is no motive.
5. 'cos there is no history or indication of past abuse, unstability or unhappiness in that family.
6. 'cos IF they were, even if it were accidental, one of them would have cracked by now.
7. 'cos something, anything would have come up as "significant evidence"... NOTHING HAS...!
All the accusations of murder are based on speculation & HEARSAY...

The scale of the media interest in the Madeleine McCann case has been unprecedented.

From day one, the McCanns courted the international media to help find their child.

But the Portuguese police decision to name them as suspects has seen media interest in the case reach even greater heights.

The McCanns have now appealed for privacy, but are they right to do so after initially encouraging the media?

Now that they are back in the UK, they are entitled to legal aid irrespective of their incomes and they are entitled to it under "The Interests of Justice test" which determines whether an applicant should receive legal aid based on the merits of the case and whether by denying them representation this would lead to a miscarriage of justice. The rules for civil and criminal legal aid are really not the same at all!! Civil Legal Aid if means tested.Anyway see link:
http://www.legalservices.gov.uk/docs/cds_main/IofJJusticeGuidanceFinalVersion060607.pdf

They are back in the UK. They can instruct any firm of solicitors to act for them...... BUT, the reason they want more money is that they DO NOT WANT ANY OLD SOLICITORS FIRM, they want the best firm and possibly a couple of QC's for this for which they WOULD NOT RECEIVE legal aid.

So why should they be entitled to better representation then any of us... and at the publics' expense as well?

Given the strength of public feeling about this, were I advising the McCanns I would say the following: Wind up the Fund, NOW and donate what has been collected so far (all of it) to something like the National Missing Person's Helpline or another appropriate charity....which would have the added benefit of making you look good.

If they don't think they can stretch to legal costs from their own reserves, set up another fund specifically for that purpose...but be open and up-front about its aims and objectives and exactly what the money will be spent on. People should always make an informed choice about what they donate to and the onus is on the recipient to make absolutely sure that this is crystal clear before asking people to part with their cash.

Is anyone able to translate the corresponding Portuguese article, this is one of the front page headlines in Portugal today. Sky news showed it briefly and said they'll use the diary to create a psychological profile of Kate. Oh and she insults her children in the diary too. Don't know if it's just 'oh, sean and amelie were quite naughty today' or something much more sinister.

LOGAN, W.Va. — A woman who authorities said was sexually abused, beaten and stabbed while held captive for at least a week was repeatedly called a racial slur during the attacks, the victim's mother said.

Six people, all white, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, have been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of the 23-year-old black woman, sheriff's officials said Monday.

Authorities were still looking for two people they believe drove the woman to the home where she was abused, said Logan County Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess.

The FBI, which was asked by the sheriff's department to aid in the investigation, will look into whether a hate crime occurred.

The woman's abductors called her the N-word "every time they stabbed her," the woman's mother told The Charleston Gazette for a story published Tuesday.

The woman underwent surgery for leg wounds, Dingess told the paper.

Speculation is mounting that prosecutors in the Madeleine McCann case want to secure more items from the family as they continue to hunt for evidence against them.

There are claims that British police are preparing to seek possessions from Kate and Gerry McCann, on behalf of the Portuguese authorities, though the force in their home county, Leicestershire, has said it is not aware of any such request.

Surely, you can now see that most of these stories are speculation and just that and nothing else? Everything that you are reading has come from the Portuguese media and has been fed to our reporters. If our police say that they have no such request then what other untruths have been fed to the media just to sell papers?

First they become rich off the fund, then they want a few million more from the Tal & Qual newspaper for telling the truth now they want a separate fund for their defense. Do they ever pay their own bills?
By the way. The Villa they rented later was 7000 euros per month quite a step up from their middle class vacation apartment. The Algarve has beautiful very expensive villas and resorts, the one they were staying at is very low end compared to what's all around so when the fund money started coming in they stepped right up living like rockstars.
