We are thinking of purchasing an ADT system. They came to our house, gave their pitch and it was $530.00. I see in ads in newspapers that going through a "distributor" you can basically get the system for free with a $99.00 installation charge and you pay maybe $6-8 more per month. They claim to be billed and installed by ADT and are just a marketer for them. Is this okay?? Any pros and cons of this??? Wanting to make sure there isn't a catch. We are speaking of Defender Security Co.

I have a lot a house plans and need a way to store them for easy access. I had rather not keep them rolled up. I was hoping for a way to organize and store out of sight, maybe in some sort of furniture. I have looked at office depot and they have a hanger system and a cart that separates them into square cubicles. I really do not like either, I was hoping for something that looks more like furniture.

What is the most economical way to run gas central heating? One person says leave it on all the time because, what it takes to heat up the rads when you've let them cool down is more than it takes to maintain them at the same temperature. Can I have some expert advice on this, please? It seems to me that it has to be more economical to turn it off for twelve hours and leave it on for twelve hours: on from 6am until 10 am and then back on at 4pm til 12.

Is it better to turn the heat off before you leave for the day and turn it back on OR does it cost more to warm the house back up than it would to just keep it on all day? I am usually gone for 9-10 hours a day. thanks!

The top corner of my bathroom is nearly black! I'm pretty sure that it's a spider that made that mess. It looks like dark ashes, it's dirt, it's not even a web. I tried to wipe it out but it spreads.

Any ideas?

We stored our books in the basement and they got flooded by rain. Soon after I noticed anytime I got one of these books it felt like I was being bitten by microscopic bugs cos try as I might I could not see anything. My wife and daughter thought I was nuts for a while but once in a while it happens to them as well. I noticed it happens more when the room is warm but reduces if the room is cold like in the basement. Please advice is it anything we can kill or ward off I have a great collection of books I dont want to throw out or give to the library so as not to infect their collection as I'vefound that if u add a brand new book to these books it gets infected.

A friend gave us a one year old leather couch. It was in her house, which has 8 dogs living in it. We cleaned it well for two days.

Day after we got it we started noticing moths in our house, just one or two at first. Now, 10-15 a day. Never saw one moth in our 4 yr old condo before that.

Reason this feels like an emergency: We have two small puppies. Did these moths come from Lice? Fleas? Ticks? From her house? And if SO…Are our puppies in danger now????? Does anyone know anything about this?

Thank you!

When my orchid finished flowering the instructions said to cut the stems at the first 'raised' joint, then new buds may start to form.

Well I did this, but alas, I think I may have cut the stems at the wrong end as I cut them at the 1st raised joints at the bottom! and all I am left with now is two stumps, it has been like this for months now, have I ruined the plant? Thanks :))

I am thinking of replacing my hot water tank with a Stiebel Eltron Tempra tankless electric water heater. I have been told that electric tankless doesn't work very well. Does anybody out there have one, and do you like it?

Has anyone used a 30,000 - 80,000 convection heater with a 20 lb tank? The manual says it will run for a very short time on low with a 20 lb tank but the front of the box says it will run for 8.5+ hours on a 20 lb tank. The manual also said a 20 lb tank would only work for mildly cold weather and I would need a 100 lb tank for days colder than 40 degress and two 100 lb tanks for days colder than 20 degrees. Does this make any sense to anyone? I want to use it to heat my garage which is less than 500 sq ft so the low setting should work fine. I wanted to get some opinions from those who have used them before I set it up or bring it back.

Thanks for your help
