If he eats out a lot, he may not need kitchen items. However, he'll need towels, bathmats, etc, so you can't go wrong there.

Also, another practical gift would be a nice set of sheets, a blanket, etc.

A gift card to a department store like Target or Sears would be a good bet. That way, he can get what he needs.

I'd buy him two things:

A picnic basket: they come with 2 or 4 settings and each has a plate, flatware, drinking glass (ususally wine glass), and a tablecloth ...at least! They are not too expensive and are fun to have ... oh, also a thermos and things like that .... you can check Williams Sonoma.com to see...I just did and they also have a picnic backpack in navy blue with all sorts of things like bottle openers, a table cloth, plates, glasses, spatula ... it is fun to see, if nothing else and quite frankly is very good for the price.... this way he will have a bunch of things you bought him without running all over town ... and a nice place to keep them ..

Also, I'd get him something for the back yard.... I assume he has a garden .... I'd buy a couple of planters .... like window boxes, some dirt and some seeds for annuals ... and a small watering can and a little shovel ....

Good Luck ... and Happy Trails!

buy him a gift card from Lowes or Home Depot and let him buy what he thinks he needs.
