We stored our books in the basement and they got flooded by rain. Soon after I noticed anytime I got one of these books it felt like I was being bitten by microscopic bugs cos try as I might I could not see anything. My wife and daughter thought I was nuts for a while but once in a while it happens to them as well. I noticed it happens more when the room is warm but reduces if the room is cold like in the basement. Please advice is it anything we can kill or ward off I have a great collection of books I dont want to throw out or give to the library so as not to infect their collection as I'vefound that if u add a brand new book to these books it gets infected.

The first person answering could be correct. Mold can cause a skin reaction, like burning, itching, etc. I personally would get rid of the books. I know it would be difficult to do but is it worth it keeping stuff that can make you sick? Or you could have them treated for 1000's of dollars with the chemical used to treat anthrax.

I would rule out mold if there is not a must smell. I don't really know if dust mites are the cause, because they usually stay in or around bedding, carpets, etc. I would suggest calling an exterminator and tell them what your situation is and go from there. Good luck.
