We just bought a condo built in the 80s, yesterday I heard a crackling/whirring noise and found smoke coming out of the fuse box in the hallway, of course in a panic I unscrewed the whole thing not realizing all I needed to do was pull the knob and remove the fuses. These fuses go to the A/C -heater, the ones I took out were 1 use fuses so I went to Home Depot asked and got the primo Fusetron FRN-R-40 250 V, same numbers as the 1 use fuses, however I was paranoid all night and didn't run the heater. This a.m I did and remaining paranoid, kept feeling the box and the fuses were hot.
My questions are-are they suppose to feel hot?
The previous fuses were in when we moved in and worked 2 months we have been here and do I need an electrician?
Thanks!

I have a 2 foot fixture with two 20 watt fluorescent lights.
Ive been wondering if I can put a 400 watt bulb in it. Do they make 400 watt 2 foot bulbs or would i have to get a bigger fixture?
Electricians welcomed to answer.

Also is it a fire hazard to do this? I mean putting a 400 watt in a two foot fixture.

i just got back from friggin nj and am trying to wash our laundry. the drier was working fine but it sounded like it got all balled up inside so i opened the door to separate everything and when i closed the door and hit start again it didn't work. i know nothing about driers at all. i tried the circuit breaker and unplugging it and running it in various cycles but that's about all i can figure to do. should i just by a new drier? ours seems pretty old ... came with the house and the previous owners had 4 kids. should i just replace the washer too if i do the drier. it works fine but i guess a new one would be nice.

All of the sudden I don't hardly have any hot water. Just enough to take maybee a 2 minute shower. This is with only the hot water faucet turned on, not the cold, and the water is not super super hot like it normally would be with just the hot water faucet turned on, just warm enough to shower. And then after the 2 minutes it quickly gets colder and colder and then its gone. Coincidently, this started as soon as it got really really cold outside, which is what makes me wonder if my water heater is broken or if it is something else. The energy guide sticker on it is dated October 1988 so it is really old..... Should I just replace it or could it be something else? I dont want to replace it and still not have hot water. I have 4 kids in the house!

I purchased a wine fridge. The front had to huge strips of tape keeping the door closed in the box, when I removed it, I now have stringy, sticky residue on the glass. I've tried scrubbing with soapy water, tried nail polish remover, and alcohol. Help me please
thanks

I was trying to bake something in my oven, so I turned it on and set the temp. I waited for it to heat up since the 'on' light was on, and it worked earlier today. When I opened it up, however, I noticed that I couldn't hear it turning on and that it wasn't heating up. I have a gas-powered Whirlpool oven that I have no idea how to fix, but before I hire someone to look at it, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to check or what may be wrong.

Water entered the electrial connection for an over head light (chandelier). Subsequently, the dimmer failed but continued to work as a switch with maxium lighting. Replaced the dimmer with another. After two days the dimmer no longer works on the replacement. No blown circuit breakers. We also heard earlier two sort of buff noises and two of the chandelier sockets are dead. Any answers would be appreciated.

We had a leak with our hot water heater. Some water may have squirted into the furnace. Now, when we turn the heat on, the furnace burners turn on then quickly turn off again. We used a heat gun to dry the electronics in the back of the furnace, but we still have this problem. Does anybody know what is wrong? Thanks

I just moved into a 3 bedroom mobile home. My power bill is $164.00. I was shocked!!! I'm used to it being under $100.00. I have not done anything special or had any guests over. I try to keep my heat on (auto 70) degrees. Does anyone have any energy saving suggestions or tips to save???
