I live in northern Vermont, where it is obviously cold. When the dryer is not in use and you open the door you can feel cold air really coming in through the vents in the back. I checked outside and the vent there is closed like it should be when the dryer is off.

We recently bought a house with a brick fireplace. I use newspaper, kindling, and firewood to build my fires. Unfortunately, our living room tends to get visibly smoky particulary at light up and sometimes when manipulating the fire to keep it lit. The fireplace has an ash door in the bottom and a pull chain flue above (obviously opened prior to lighting). There is NO damper (part of the mechanism exists but the damper was removed sometime before we bought the house). Additiontally, there is no other significant spot for air exchange in the house where I could imagine a vacuum being created to draw the smoke inward.

We recently purchased a house and when we went to remove a door knob from one of the doors there was what we think is super glue over the screws. We want to replace the door knob because it has a lock on it and the room is meant for our 5 year old. We don't want her locking us out you know, heh...

How can we get rid of it? We've tried scraping it off with knives and screwdirivers but that hasnt helped much

I'll start off by saying that my father owns a painting company and I have a fair bit of experience in the field.. so I need an experts advice.
My girlfriend spilled nail polsih remover on a brand new wood dining room table. This caused the polyurethane (at least I think it's poly) to come off and leave a bare spot. My friend (trying to help) took a clorox (blach) wipe and tried to clean it off. This seems like it soaked into the bare wood and lightened it by a few shades. Also, the edges around the damaged spot are white and dry looking.
What is the best way to fix this? I know I cant just "touch up" the poly becuase it will show. I'm assuming I have to re-poly the whole table. If that's the case, can I just lightly sand down the table and apply poly, or do I need to completely stip the old poly off of the table.
I'm assuming this finish is polyurethane. Is that the most common finish? Could it be something else? It's not a thick finish at all.
Thanks for the help!

I can't get the paint sleeve off the roller. Aren't they supposed to come off so you can re-use the wire thing underneath? Did I leave it on too long so it dried? What did I do wrong. How do you get rid of the old blotchy roller pad sleeve so you can put on a new one? Thanks.

When you have had little or NO Utility use:
1 (Vacant office with no electrical appliences present) NO USE.
or
2(Only Gas used is Gas Water Heater) very LOW readings
^^^
1After Months of NO USE, (although I still paid a minimum charge)
we had a small refrigerator there for Two Months, (a small encrease) It was removed and back to NO USEage.
Then suddenly a Monthly reading bumped it up to 3000 Units -
(I think they "tested" the Meter by running it up)
NO Use following Month (same identical reading) -
Then bumped it up again; another 3000
I know they THINK somebody is using Utilities But the place is VACANT and does not even Have appliences there capable of generating that usage!!!

2 The Co was suspicious of the low reading (i only use Gas for water heater); and tested/changed my meter. The readings still being low they suddenly after a few Months- ran up the Meter - when I was gone for 2 weeks. (to the amount it "would be" if furnace ect were used) WHAT DO YOU DO!!

The pilot light will light, but the burner will not. Maybe a clog? No one seems to know how to fix it.

I put a jar with a metalic lable into the microwave (didn't know it was foil) and saw sparks. I immediately stopped it and tried to heat water in it to see if it still worked. It does work, but I noticed a small burn mark on the inside of the door. Should I throw it out? My husband is still using it, much to my dismay. He taped foil over the outside of the door in line with the burn mark on the inside. We can't afford another one right now. Any suggestions?

For a door latch that keeps getting water in it and freezing so it will not operate. Something that will work in extreme cold, WD-40 seems to freeze up with the latest cold temps.

We bouhgt a 57 yea old cape. The problem is that the owners never installed any heating upstairs. The previous owner installed ducts for the central air but never installed any heating as well. Any ideas about how we can get heating up there. The lowest cost alternative would be best.

I am not sure what is wrong, but need to find out... Since I have turned my gas on this winter, I have noticed that our upstairs is super hot... at first didn't think anything of it, Heat rises... downstairs is freezing... I am talking abnormal temps. Upstairs with the vents almost all the way closed AND window open... this morning it was 98 degrees. Downstairs is about 68. Thermostat is set at 68, and is located downstairs. Gas bill for past 3 months has been over $250. Yikes... Anyone know what it is. Had a service guy come out, and he said it was the damper???? That's it, and quoted me $679.72 to fix....

The last few days my clothes dryer has started to squeak when it starts up. After the first few minutes the squeaking seems to stop but after it is stopped and restarted, it squeaks again. Are there any parts, places where it would help to spray some WD-40 or am I headed for bigger problems? Any suggestions appreciated.
