I have a GE side by side refrigerator that is only 1 1/2 yrs old. Everything on the freezer side started unthawing, and it will not freeze it then went to the refrigerator side and won't stay cold. I don't have a warranty on it. What could cause this?

Check to see if it is frozen up,get a flashlight and look through the vents on the freezer and see if the coils are iced over,if they are you may be able to thaw it through the vent with a hair dryer. If it continues to freeze up you will have to have a technician check it...

I also own a GE side by side and had the opposite thing happen it started freezing the products on the refrigerator side. GE repair was never able to complete solve the problem. If you are in NJ I would suggest a repair person in my area that has helped me in the past and is very reasonable. The name of his repair service is Fix-it Appliance 732-363-5223.

Check your air inlets coming from the freezer, are they blocked on the freezer side? check that the setting haven't been changed by someone. It could be what you said also and I think that it is all together with the thermostat. I have had nothing but problems with GE appliances, so much so that I will NEVER buy another. Try turning the frige thermostat colder and wait 12-24 hours see if that does anything

Contact GE, I recently had to replace mine which would have been about the same age. There was a recall on a few models of GE for this problem.

Had the same thing happen with my Amana last year after only owning it for about 8 months. It needed a new blower motor to circulate the cold air. Good luck!
