The washing machine (GE Spacemaker) won't drain and pressing the start button just makes a buzzing noise. The machine is old and I need to know if fixing it will be cheap or should I replace the whole thing. Can a local guy diagnose the problem?

Also -- how do I drain the nasty water inside the machine? I can't access the hoses in the back -- they are inaccessible.

Is it possible that the unit (and/or the air surrounding it) reaches up to 135 degrees or more and this can be a fire hazard? Thanks.

My wife was scrubbing pans with a small steel wool pad with the disposal running. She dropped the pad and it fell into the disposal and it is now in there. It has been grinding up but it does not sound good so I stopped running it. What should I do? I don't know anything about plumbing and I really dont want to call a plumber if I don't have to. Will the disposal be all right to grind up the pad, or will I have to do something about it. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Oil fired central heating system, with a feed and return pipe, house bungalow, rads at front of house heat no problems, warm water heats no problems but rads in the three bedrooms only heat a little at the top, flushed rads out, no change and there is a gurgling in the pump and boiler, the three rads that don't heat properly, the feed pipe is roasting but it seems the water can't get throught the rad, all valves open, return from these rads luke warm, I beleive theirs air in the system on the return pipe restricting the flow, but cant shift it no air in the rads

I have only two-prong outlets in the room I need it in, but the plugs are both three-prongs. Is it okay to use an outlet adapter for this? The appliance is an infrared sauna.

If the key sometimes spins in the lock without actually unlocking the door is it the barrel that is likely to be worn or the mechanism in the door itself?

If it's the barrel then it's simple enough to replace. If it's the door then I've no idea...

I have a tub/shower with no back wall. There is oval tub enclosure with a shower curtain hanging from the ceiling. When the shower is running, water flows down the front wall after splashing off of the person in the shower. The water runs along the top of the tub and will flow to the left and the right. If it goes to the left, it drains into the tub. If it goes to the right, it runs down the outside of the tub and onto the floor, where it leaks through to the kitchen ceiling. It seems that the tub was installed slightly crooked, but fixing that would be cost prohibitive for now. Is there any fixture or door that could be installed that would fix this? Something that would possibly run along the wall where the faucet, spigot, and shower head are, then curve around to follow the edge of the tub so that water cannot get out? Or is there an easier fix out there?

I havea Potterton EP3002 boiler which is failing intermittently . The hot water part is ok but th C.H. is very unreliable, I have to keep re-igniting the pilot as when it all fires up for the Ch everything goes out.The coupler has been replaced.
If I need a new boiler and I expect I will be told I do, what type do I need and how much. Detatched, insulated house. 4Bed. Dble Glazed.10 Radiators.

Everytime I use the hot water in the bathroom sink and it goes into the drain, there are really loud popping noises coming from the wall. It's not the water supply line because it does it when I just pour hot water from another source down the drain. It only does it in the winter time. It sounds like the wood studs in the wall are being snapped in half. It's that loud! I read somewhere that it's the pvc pipe expanding and contracting but I can't believe it can cause such a loud noise. It doesn't do it with cold water down the drain but sometimes it does make one pop noise, so I think water pressure has an effect. But hot water definitely makes the pop noise steadily. I've mention it to the landlord and they just blow it off saying they're not going to tear down a wall to investigate the noise! I'm afraid of a sewage leak! What's causing the noise and should I be concerned?

Ok, I'm going to try to give a "quick" verison of this.

Yesterday, I found mold forming on one of the windows. I checked the rest of the windows in the house and found mold on all but 2 or 3 of them. There wasn't a lot on them - except for in my daughter's room. In her room it was pretty bad (in comparison) and had gone down the wall. Most of it was "spots", but it went all the way down one side (from the R of the window) and 2-3 small dots to the right of the window. The only place in got past the baseboard to the carpet was in the corner.

We did some looking and didn't find any other areas like this in the house. Found that the humifier was leaking in the basement & was up too high (neither of us know anything about it so we never bothered it). Right now, we have it off and the leak has stopped. There was also mold forming in the storage room where the wall had started leaking again.

My husband plugged in an electric heater which tripped the breaker. We unplugged the heater and reset the breaker and everything worked fine until the next morning. The breaker had tripped again during the night so we reset it again and it stayed on for a few minutes then turned back off. We tried a several times but it keeps kicking back off. We replaced the breaker, hoping the problem was there, but it continues to kick. How do we find a short, besides tearing down walls to see the wiring? My husband took electricity in high school (he's 22), but he can't think of anything. Please help! I don't want our house to burn down!

It's been six weeks since it's worked! We're poor as little church mice - can't hardly afford a stamp, let alone a plumber. We've tried chemicals and liquids, snakes and plungers...any ideas? I'm disabled - so I can't take it apart. Thanks.
