My mom picked this piece of a bush from this guys yard (She actually went up to his door and he told her he didnt mind. My mom is silly! But the guy didn't know what it was called because that is his wifes domain and she wasn't home.) It's got these yellow leaves about 2 inches long or so and the stems are red. Really red around the leaf area. I searched the web but didn't have much luck. I'm going to try and post a picture. Hopefully it works.

Help!! I can't sit on my porch without being eaten alive. What kind of treatment can I put on my grass to help keep the bugs and worms from attacking me. Please don't say contact the pest control people. They already spray once a month. But, they usually don't spray the yard. So they say. The man acted as if I were nuts when I asked him to spray the yard. He sprayed 2 ft. from the porch. But, after about 2 days the bugs swarm me especially, during the evening.

i dugup my iris's this summer, they were getting crowded.
I want to re-plant them now in the fall. do you think the root will still come up in the spring, even though, they've been out of the ground and in my shed for the summer?

I'm far from a plant expert, but I'd like to change out the plants in my front garden bed. Is there a website where I can view which plants will prosper in my area and perhaps see options of which plants look good together?

If I were to purchase a swimming pool, and use sand as part of a landscaping around the pool, would this affect the filtering system if the sand falls into the swimming pool, or can I also have sand on the swimming pool floor?

Here is the deal - just moved into a new house. The front was sodded, the back ended up being full of weeds and we are starting over. We bought RoundUp and killed all the weeds and grass. Everything. We plan on breaking up all the dirt and removing the old weeds and grass (is that right?). We are then renting an aerator and using a 3 blend of seed (as advised by the guy at the store) and a fertilizer. He said there is no need for straw. Then we are going to water frequently in small time frames and then infrequently in longer times frames once the grass gets growing.

For those of you who have done this, does that sound right? I am trying to figure it out by what I have read online and what I have been told at the store. Who knew growing grass could be so detailed/confusing!

Also, is it too early to plant the seed? (Like Septmeber 15th or 22nd.)

I have some beautiful roses in my garden and I'm not sure which part of them I have to cut in order to put it in the ground...
Is now a good period to do this or should I wait until October?
How would they resist over the winter?
Here's a picture of them if that helps: http://s226.photobucket.com/albums/dd303/IntunericALB/?action=view¤t=Picture016.jpg
If you have any other tips I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

I have just planted Cowboy Cactus (euphorbia) in a partially sunny and sheltered spot in my garden in London.

Now I know most places will recommend that it be kept either indoors or in a conservatory but I'm thinking they must be used to living in the desert where it gets pretty damn cold at night time and its a pretty hardy plant - will the winter frosts kill it ?

Hi. I planted this flowering vine along some lattice on our deck. I adore it! Not only does it give us added privacy for our deck area, the hummingbirds love it too. I forgot the name of it and I want to plant more in the spring. There are pods on it so I have the seeds to plant, but everyone wants to know what this beautiful vine is called.. any info will be helpful... even a link perhaps to a site where i might be able to find it. Thanks.

I cannot add a photo (to my knowledge, but I have posted a poor quality photo on my blog, http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-kKG7cZkyYqW1tRXwzsAEguWi. The larger caterpillars are approximately 1.5 - 1.75 inches long. they have spines (single, unbranched spines). They are striped longitudinally with brown and dull orange stripes.
