About the only herbicide you can safely use on St Augustine grass is "Atrazine". It has been around since the 1940's and is one of the most commonly used pesticides in the United States, mainly by Midwest farmers. One well known company "Ortho" manufactures a special herbicide for St Augustine grass called Ortho "Weed B Gone" Spot Weed Killer For St Augustine. It comes in a 1.78 lb. bag and will treat about 800 weeds per bag. It contains .60% Atrazine! It is usable on any type of St Aug. including "Floritam" variety. Here is a link with a pic and info. Just scroll down to look. You can probably find it at Walmart, Home Depot or one of those larger garden centers. Hope this answers your question.

Additional Info: It is never wise to use a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup on the lawn. Not unless you plan on spraying the whole area off to replant ,or start over with a new lawn. That is why "selective" herbicides were manufactured. They will only kill the targeted weed and not the surrounding grass with possible drift or accidental spraying. Roundup is a no no when spot spraying a lawn!

Most warm season grasses like St Augustine go dormant during the winter months and turn brown. In February and March the weeds start to grow and green up but the dormant grass is still brown. Squirt the green items with Roundup and the weeds will die leaving the grass to grow and block out additional weeds from growing.

Please don't be using pesticides or herbacides on your lawn. Clover is a good plant, feeding the soil and making the grass happy. Other weeds can be easily popped out when small.

St Augustine is usually stronger than the weeds. Make sure you are mowing it at the proper height, about 3-4".

Beside St Augustine is a weed in my thoughts.
