My younger brother has a ranch in the Sierra Foothills, and has two nice old apple-trees and two nice old walnut-trees. They are ALL rather overgrown though, and I'm curious about the correct time of year and the correct method of pruning them. I'd like to see them grow alittle taller and produce alittle more. Thank for your help.

My rose bushes had black spot fever on the leaves.... I am spraying them every week, but all the leaves have died and fell off. The bushes are still blooming roses though. All that is left of the plant is thorny stems...should I just cut down to the ground? Or is this the wrong time of year to do this?

Here is a picture of the roses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_arkansana They are wild to my area, and come up all the time around the road and so a couple of weeks ago, i picked 3 of them (with all there roots) and planted them in some soil with manure in them. There are OK, some of the leaves have fallen off and i don't think they'll bloom this year. I planted 4 more today, and it was really hot out and there kinda wilted. They are in partial shade, and i watered them about 3 times. WIll they be ok? Now for my morning glories, some of seeds from last year survived and came up in my flowerbed all messy and stuff, they were already big already too, some were about 4 inches tall and starting to vine. I dug up some grass near my fence, and put them in and put soil and mulch around them. But they are wilted too now. I watered them lots. I have did this before, and they looked like that but they always survived, but i'm not sure this time. Any advice? Tips? Thanks in advance!

For about 1.5 acres, how much per month do you think it would cost to hire a grounds keeping crew to mow the lawn, plant flowers, and maintain the land? (I live in upstate NY)

The tree is about 6 ft tall. Looked like it was growing new leaves. In one day the leaves toward the center, near the trunk turned yellow.

This is not my first time growing cucumbers. Last year, even with poor weather and floods I had so many I was giving them away!

This year I have a truly wonderful garden. Soil is great, composted, nourished with bone meal. When I say every other plant I have in my garden is flourishing and producing fruit like mad, I mean it. Even my eggplants are flourishing and they are picky plants.

But my cuckes are awful! The plants are in great shape with big dark leaves and there are baby cukes and flowers all over the place. The plants are huge too. No bug damage. But all of the cuckes are either dying when small, or curling, or taste so bad and bitter you can't eat them.

What is wrong? I've never had a problem with the cukes. I don't understand.

My dad has these flowers in his front yard that bloom new flowers each day. They are purple flowers. They bloom in the morning and as soon as the sun starts to set they fall off and start growing the new ones for the next day. He has no clue what the name of the flower is just that it is really cool. Can anyone help me find this.

Thanks!!

This is my first year growing a garden. I have big beautiful squash plants that are ready to be growing but no squash! My friend at work already has squash 2 inches long. I went out yesterday and it looks like where the squash would be growing, (where my yellow bloom was) has been picked. And its in a few places in my squash. Looks like its been picked. I have squirrels galore around my house and i think its them. My strawberries?? This is the second year i had them and not one strawberry. Plenty of blooms, but no strawberries. Im furious. I heard you can plant merigolds around to keep the bugs away, but will they keep squirrels away? PLEASE HELP ME......

I love plants/flowers but I can't keep them alive.

What are some good plants that need little to no sunlight? Indoor plant that my cat won't eat. That might be my bigest problem she eats every plant I bring home.

What are some plants/flowers that need lots of light?

And if you can give me tips on plant/flower care for each plant/flower you give.

The tree is about 30 feet high, no growth for the first 7 feet, the top is quite stragly. I want to cut the top 10 or so feet off and see if it promotes growth to the lower part of the tree. Hope I don't kill the tree by doing it, but right now, the top is too high to enjoy the "crown" as there isn't one!. thanks. Deb
