The tree is about 30 feet high, no growth for the first 7 feet, the top is quite stragly. I want to cut the top 10 or so feet off and see if it promotes growth to the lower part of the tree. Hope I don't kill the tree by doing it, but right now, the top is too high to enjoy the "crown" as there isn't one!. thanks. Deb

Sure you can... i cut my giant one to ground level and it came back from the stump better than ever and is healthier than ever and 1/2 the stump is rotted. It is 5 feet tall in 5 years.

Many professionals agree that topping a tree is NOT a good practice for the longterm health of the tree. Not to mention it makes them look terrible.

Yes you can do this, but I'd call someone who does this job and have them do it right so you do get more growth on the tree, and so it looks decent.
