i live in cali. and my backyard is surrounded by several trees or so and the only thing that seems to grow is ivy. What are some good sturdy plants that can grow in shady ares? I am a begining gardener so i also need something that is realatively easy to start out with.

It is the one with purple, spiked flowers... The original claim is that it was Acanthus Mollis, but I know that is incorrect. Could it be a variety of Liatris?

It's still fairly cold here in Wisconsin and I forgot to plant bulbs last fall. When is the best time to plant spring bulbs, and when can i expect them to come up?

Ok I know this is a strange question. My local flower grower suggested putting diapers in the bottom of my pots to hold moisture during the hot summer months. My father-in-law suggested that since I have small babies - urine soaked diapers would work better. He said urea is good for plants. Anyone heard of this???

How do you bury a body that is to big for a coffin, but to small for a swimming pool. And how would i dispose of a body about 5' 2'' and 115 lbs. Hypothetically speaking.

I am planning on leveling the ground and putting down weed fabric then putting the rock down. My husband says I need to dig deeper, put down the fabric, put down sand and then pebble then the rocks, otherwise it will turn into a soup bowl and the rock will sink/wash away. I do not plan on putting any plants in.

I know this is a kinda stupid question, but i've always wondered if sunflower seeds come from the actual sunflower, or do the sunflower seeds come first.
so what comes first the sunflower or the seed (with shell)?
and where do they come from?

Thank you.

I planted 3 lemon seeds a few years ago. The seeds came from a lemon that I got from the grocery store...
Anyway, they are taller than the house now, but have never produced flowers or lemons.
I was reading that it may take up to 15 years for them to produce. Unless they are grafted or propagated from an already producing tree...
Well I do have a lime plant that produces, so I was wondering how this could be done and what would I get?
Limons? lol
I searched google, but couldnt find what I was looking for.
Can anyone explain, or give me a good website that shows me what to do?
Thanks!

I cant tell if my lawn did well through the Winter. Its too soon to see the full potential of new grass blades, but mostly now I see thatch from last year. It was about 5 inches long last Fall but I could not cut it (was out of the country)
Will mowing now (March) cut off all that dead thatch to let me see the actual grass?

THX!

I got a bunch of seed packets yesterday for the vegetable garden. They were only .10 each. They are American Seed brand. They were so cheap I couldn't resist. My husband said, "Buy cheap, get cheap."

What has been your experience with these seeds (ie. yield or hardiness)?

Are the expensive seeds really worth the extra cost?

Also, do I have to throw away the seeds I don't use this year or can I keep them for next year?
