Buy raw peanuts, you will need to shell them before planting. Make sure the skin on the kernel is intact...or plant peanut seeds indoors for 4-6 weeks then tranplant in your garden.

It is better to plant them with the shell on or buy them prepared for planting "Seed Peanuts"
The actual seed of the peanut is very small and it can come lose from the peanut as a whole and it needs the nutrient to become germinated.

Skin or no skin does not matter-just shell them and follow the method below:

* Soak peanuts in water overnight
* Fill pot with soil to one inch below rim
* Plant three peanuts 1 to 2 inches deep. Cover firmly with soil but do not pack
* Keep soil moist (not wet). Maintain a temperature of 65 degrees F. or above (80 degrees F. is ideal)

Happy Gardening!

everyone of these idiots are wrong my friend,, you need to shell the nuts to get a good germination rate.. I learned the hard way and planted 10 acres of nuts with shell and only two plants came up,, the other 10 acres I had cracked and partially shredded the shells and only about half came up!! I HAVE used fresh peanuts from a grocery store and had great success..

It doesn't matter.....You can plant them in the shell or not. It would just take longer for them to germinate in the shell.

By the way.....If the peanut has been cooked, it is dead and will not grow, no matter how you plant it.

With the skin and very deep in the soil.
They will have to be roasted come harvest time.
Don't eat straight from the garden.
