I don't know if it is particular to the UK, but I have seen so many gardens with that I wonder what purpose they serve. I can understand that, years ago they may have been regarded as cute or fun but I would have hoped that we had moved on since then. If a garden owner wants to have ornaments then surely there is a big enough range to choose from rather than buy a gnome. Do owners of gnomes want to tell the world that they are being an individual and don't care what the public amy think? I really am at a loss to understand why this ugly adornment remains an item that can be so readily bought!

We have had a nice grass garden all Summer and now out of no where has came "Toadstools" covering different areas of the garden. Can you advise where they came from and how to get rid of them so they won't come back? Thanks

My wife and I have always liked to make love outside in the grass when the weather permits and I was wondering what would be the best type of grass to plant. We just moved into a new home and I need to start some seed. I'm looking for something that's soft to the touch yet sturdy enough for a vigorous love making session, isn't itchy like a lot of grass, and preferably won't cause to much grass stains. It's pretty warm where we live and we wear shorts and go swimming a lot but it gets tiresome trying to come up with new excuses for all the grass stains all over our bodies. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Im pretty good at planting and growing things in TN however i am moving to florida down by pensacola in december my new place has been neglected as far as the yard goes and i was wondering what the planting season is like since there isnt much of a winter there. Plants here that are considered tropical(mandevilla, hibiscus etc) are grown in the ground there so is it possible to have a vegetable garden year round? are plants able to go dormant in florida?

Two neighbors of mine whom live side by side, have a line of trees that split their property. There has been a feud between the two over who owns them, and whether they can be cut down or not. Last week, one of the trees (Poplar Tree), which looked extremely healthy, and was right beside the neighbor's garage, mysteriously fell over. The tree was very healthy, but the root system was completely disintegrated, and allowed the tree to fall over. Is there something out there that would rot the root system off without killing the tree. Would copper nails in the tree kill the roots, while allowing the leaves to stay green and healthy looking? I do tree work on the side, and have never seen anything like this before. In my opinion, It looks way too much like sabotage...

I have a very old jade tree that was my fathers and so it is very dear to me. I went away on vacation 2 weeks ago and while we were gone it frosted 2 nights in a row. I brought it in as soon as we got home, but most limbs feel limp and the majority of the leaves are brown and wilted. However, there are still some leaves that look healthy. Can it be saved? What do I need to do to revive it?

Our new house has nothing to spice it up on the outside. No trees, no shrubs. There is grass, though. Around the house there are "decorative" rocks that just look like plain old rocks to me.

In the spring, what are some relatively cheap and easy ways for me to spruce it up a bit? We are on a budget and have never gardened before, so expensive plants that require a lot of care are not a good idea.

Also, do I have to remove the rocks completely to plant things, or can I just push them out of the way, do the planting, and then push them back?

I live in central Illinois.

With the current rat eof urbanization, most of U.S. will be suburban by the end of the century. Just imagine....few forests, few open spaces. There will be some sparce trees in between houses, but not a lot.

That would suck....so bad for health and it would be so ugly and boring....
