I do not know what kind they are. The pears are rather large, dark green and many have a brown ring around the bottoms. I don't know if this kind will turn yellow or what. Can anyone help?

I have a large canna plant with nice red flowers, the bulb which I was given was approx 5-6 inches by 9-10 inches. The plant is growing great with at least 12-14 shoots about 5ft high with multi flowers on each. As I live in upstate NY USA I know that I have to dig up the bulb an put it away for the winter. When and how do you divide the bulb without killing it?

I planted 3 different kinds and all were bad. Don't know whether I left it on the stalk too long, or didn't water it enough...

Is there a natural way to rid a garden of blight? My tomatos all got "late" blight and it's my understanding that the blight will now be in the soil when I plant next year. I don't want to use harsh chemicals that would be dangerous to the environment, people and animals. (yes, the deer love my tomatos too!) I live in Michigan and my neighbors do not have gardens. Any suggestions?

Say you've spent the better part of your Saturday pulling weeds out by the root, mostly Dandylions (not yet gone to seed) and Thistles, and you've left them laying on the lawn before you can be bothered picking them all up to put them in the yard waste bin.

Then while you're not looking, someone fires up the muching lawnmower, and mows the lawn, weeds and all.

Here's the question: The weeds were pulled out, root and all, left in the sun 1/2 day to wilt a little, then obliterated into a fine shred by the mulching mower. Are the weeds gone, or did mowing them just do a better job seeding a crop of new weeds than the wind ever could?

Just curious. Someone's fate hangs in your answer.

P.S. Yes, I'm mow-man.

I have a very small balcony so space is an issue, but I love fresh veggies! Can they grow upward like cukes? Is there a dwarf variety for small spaces?

I have a small bamboo that has been growing from the leaves for about a year and it is about twice as tall as it was when I bought it. However, the actual stalk of the bamboo is the same height. There seems to be some hardened green paste on the top of the stalk (which was there when I bought it) and I wonder if that has anything to do with the stunted growth. Is there any way for me to get the actuall bamboo stalk to grow and not just the leaves?

My fav is Fall bcz old things are dying, & others are morphing (hybernating) to wake up in Spring...with new life and new hope.
Fall is a time of reflection and readiness to prepare for the coming cold season.
It's a time that has aromas I love---fireplace smoke, bon-fire smoke, autumn leaves, apple cider, furnaces starting up after being off so long (stirring up the dust in the house), mornings with smells of cooking breakfast, furnaces cranking up while I try to dress quick for school cuz I'm cold, & the smell of coffee & eggs on my daddy's face when he kisses me goodbye on his way to work. The smell of wood floor wax & chalky erasers spelling out that school is starting again. Even the exhaust of the school bus.
The sound of leather hitting leather & the smell of leather in the crisp fall air, that spells f-o-o-t-b-a-l-l.
