Cutting them in half and drying in the sun will work - as long as it's not too humid. SUmmers around here are so humid that any drying produce will start growing mold before the drying process is complete.

If such is the case in your neck of the woods - use a dehydrater. You can get perfectly good used ones on ebay for half the cost of new.

I strung mine like the previous person-- but I used dental floss-- non-flavored. I also hung mine out of the sun but with air circulation all around each pepper-- the key seems to be-- keep the stem on and use the "cap" of the stem to string the pepper. The also string better when "fresh"-- if you wait until they're dry-- you won't bet a clean thread/needle hole.
good luck

I just pick them with long stems, tie them together in bunches and hang them in the kitchen. Works fine for me! I even hung some from my rear view mirror. Hot and dry!

You can lay them on a screen in the sun, or you can also dry them in the oven, but it is a slow process on low heat. You can also string them and hang them in the sun.
