I live in the SF bay area, California. I have a tree-filled corner in the west side of my yard which only gets filtered sunlight, if any at all. The soil gets waterlogged every winter. I also have a dog, so plants that can tolerate a little foot traffic would be great too.
Would Lily of the Valley work here? I would love something that is green and attractive all year round, possibly with flowers. Right now, I only have a mini Japanese rock garden there, so something that would go with that theme would be even better. Am I asking for too much?

The branches grow straight up and I suspect that it may be because someone in the past, not knowing better, topped off the tree and now the branches that are growing are all from the side of the trunk. Is there anything I can do to make the branches curve downwards? Weight the branches or loosely tie the ends downwards to the trunk? And is this an okay time of year to do it?

These critters have been the bane of my existance. Hubby traps gophers and moles but we don't seem to stay ahead of their repoduction rate. This spring gophers have started coming above ground to trim off the branches of mums and salvia to drag down their holes (this is a new form of warfare for them). We live in rural location on a couple of acres. We recently found a lot of gopher and mole holes under the house.
We have stuck the hoses down the holes to flood them out, but that made the ground too wet.We tried moth balls without much success. People have recommended pouring motor oil down the holes, but I don't want to polute the water table.Poison is not an option due to pets.
Has anyone had any success in this area? Is there a systemic or topical treatment that is safe and effective?

I refuse to spend more than $5000 on a tractor. I am not a commercial farmer. I am just gonna grow some fruits and vegetables, and do some gardening. And I am gonna keep the land mowed and maintained.

I want to plant a tree in a medium sized yard, one that will grow fast and provide LOTS of shade, no fruit, flowers optional but prefer none, and one with a deep root system that won't have shallow roots that will break the sidewalks or driveway. Does such a tree exist?

I have an area directly under my almost 3-story (40 year old) evergreen tree where nothing seems to grow except for a few weeds. I really would love to have some low growing plants there as it is close to the patio, but do not know of any plants that are compatible with an evergreen. Any ideas at all would be much appreciated. I live in the midwest area of USA, St Louis Missouri to be more specific. The tree and area underneath is a northwest exposure. The branches are cut about 6 to 7 feet high off the ground so it can be walked under, so there is not a problem with it being super shady. Thanks for the advice!

The bulb is huge will it multiply? Everyone wants one if it does, Is there a trick for getting it to multiply maximally? If I cut the flower will it affect it's ability to come back or multiply? I only have one.

I am taking a comprehensive exam for my master's degree in counseling and I needed to watch the movie, "White Oleander". I would like some information about the flower because the mother used the flower to kill her boyfriend.
If anyone has seen the movie and would like to share information on that, you may do so as well.
