I refuse to spend more than $5000 on a tractor. I am not a commercial farmer. I am just gonna grow some fruits and vegetables, and do some gardening. And I am gonna keep the land mowed and maintained.

No. Not really.

With 10 acres you want to mow big areas, brushhog, maybe till a little, maybe move stuff around.

I would recommend you look on eBay. You can find some "real" tractors used under your price range, and have money left over for a large moving deck. A front end loader would be good.

If you get a "real" tractor don't worry it its from the 80s or 70s. They were made to work HARD on a farm, and what you will be using it for is pretty light duty for what they were designed for. On the other hand the mower you are considering will be maxed out on 10 acres.

That's a lot of mowing if that's what you want to do. Just cutting swaths or paths through it all, leaving almost all of it alone, could suffice and would work with that tractor. I used to have one about that size that I bought used at a local Hardware Hank for a much lower price and it worked well. Watch the rocks and bee nests in the ground. A sickle mower like the well-known "Jari" that is a walk behind helps for the heavy brush - can be found cheap. I believe big old Farmall M tractors built during WWII with a hydraulic bucket loader on front (for the snow and moving dirt and logs) can be fitted up with large rotary mowers on back connected to the power take off. I had one I paid only $1100 for but that had to be brought in on a special truck. Ever get stuck in the snow with a tractor? It happens. No one is going to come and pull you out.

Far too small! If your mowing that much land it will take you all day, just to mow! This tractor is going to be of little help in the vegetable garden also.

With your budget, I would be looking at a used Kobata. Even an older Ford 8N. Something w/a three point hitch and either a bush hog or a woods mower. You may also look at an old Farmall cub (not cadet) w/a belly mower.

With your budget, your going to have to go w/an older tractor in order to get one large enough and one w/enough attachments for your needs.

I am in a landscaping business and i believe you have three options.

1. Fence off a large portion and rase cattle in it as a pasture.

2. If it is a open field then get something a little bit bigger to cut the grass with. If it has a lot of trees or stumps then that might be a good size.

3.You sell the property and find something with a little less land.

I would personnally pick choice #2.

I hope everything turns out ok for you.

I don't know alot about tractors however a very very dear friend of mine has a farm in WV and he refuses to spend a fortune on his farm equipment. His major complaint is the plastic and the thin metal. So you may want to see it in person and take into consideration the rocks and ruff terrain that will damage your tractor. Have you tried buying a used one. you know a older all metal one. They are fairly cheep depending on wear you live. I wish you the best and I can't wait till I have this problem I hate city life. HAVE FUN GARDENING!!!!! ; )
