I just bought a house! I am so excited but when it closes I will be starting on the floors. Most is covered with carpet so that won't be a problem but the hall and kitchen is a mix of tile and linoleum. Any tips on pulling it up without ruining the pine floors underneath?

I recentlly painted my bathroom and when I painted at the edges at the ceiling, I got paint there and now I'm not sure how to remove it. It's a water based paint, and I want my bathroom to look neat.

I just purchased a house built in 1930. I am considering stripping the painted woodwork which is peeling. On the interior window sill is where the peeling is the worst and it appears that I have two layers of paint chipping right down to the bare wood. I was just assuming I have lead paint because of the house's age but since I'm seeing only two paint layers it seems strange to me that the bottom layer could possibly go as far back as the lead paint years. The top layer is white and very clean so I think it's pretty new. Any thoughts?

Ok....I flushed the toilet and started to add another roll to the empty holder. The Holder axle has the spring action and when I attepted to load a new roll, the axle shot into the toilet. Unfortunately, the water was still swirling around the bowl and the axle shot into the plumbing. May sound funny...but now the toilet will not flush correctly. I cannot reach it with my hand and have no idea how far down it got caught. Any ideas? I am considering using a drain snake but I know what is causing the blockage and its not going to "break up" with a snake or a plunger.

Unlike most people, I dispise hard wood floors. But me and my wife found a terrific apartment near good schools and a block from my work.

In the room that is to be my office, the wood flloor creaks and groans and announces itself with every goddamn step.

Is there a way to put down carpet without gluing it to the floor or having it bunch up in places and scoot around?

Please help me!!!

Purchased a house built in 1800. Sagging floors part of the charm. Now after lots of rain, unusually warm period and then heavy snow and ice (freezing) my front door wont shut, the doorframe inside to my living room is split quite a bit up top and the corner to the left of the front door, inside the living room is split top to bottom where the two walls meet. Under the living room (left of the front door) is a crawl space. To the right of the front door, front room is basement with granite rock and cement block foundation. What could have caused this and how can I fix it?
