Ok....I flushed the toilet and started to add another roll to the empty holder. The Holder axle has the spring action and when I attepted to load a new roll, the axle shot into the toilet. Unfortunately, the water was still swirling around the bowl and the axle shot into the plumbing. May sound funny...but now the toilet will not flush correctly. I cannot reach it with my hand and have no idea how far down it got caught. Any ideas? I am considering using a drain snake but I know what is causing the blockage and its not going to "break up" with a snake or a plunger.

Your best bet is to take the whole toilet off and get to it from below. Its a messy job but not hard. Shut off water to toilet, ... drain tank dry, ... disconnect water hose from toilet tank, ... unscrew two nuts on the floor holding toilet in place, ... lift from floor. Clean out toilet, then reverse steps to replace.

You have two options: remove the toilet and retrieve the offending article, as previously suggested, or be ready to snake the toilet every time you want to flush it to make sure all semi-solid waste gets past the TP axle.

Additionally, you might consider a different style toilet paper holder.

As suggested by other responders you may have to take the toilet off, but if you have not flushed again since it fell in it may be just out of sight, you may be able to reach it with your hand if it hasn't gone up too far. It is worth a try before taking the toilet off just wear rubber gloves. If you do try a plunger try to pull it back with suction rather than pushing it forward.

The item is probably caught in the toilet's throat.
Unfortunately, the only way to quickly remove it is to remove the toilet from the floor.
Once the item is removed, you'll have to clean the old wax ring off and put a new one in place before you set the toilet back over the drain pipe and tighten it down.

It's best to keep the toilet's lid down until needed, so that thiese type of mishaps have less of a chance to happen.

If you happen to have a metal toilet paper roll axle you might be able to employ a magnetic flexible retrieving tool, or use a magnet on a string.

Here's a link to some magnetic retrieving tools: http://www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdspec10.html

bend a wire coat hanger, fashion a hook on the end, fish it out/push it through.
