I have a 2 story townhome. If I run the central heating unit, it is too hot upstairs and not hot enough downstairs. I usually turn the oven on about 300 degrees for about 2 hours. That seems to warm up the downstairs fine. I have the thermostat set on 70. Is it cheaper to turn the oven on for about 2 or 3 hours, or turn the thermostat up higher?

People in my community kill trees to get a better view of the ocean. What chemicals do they use to kill the trees? Someone told me that a copper nail hammered into the tree, will kill it. I would like to know what they do to kill the trees so that I know what to look for. Does anyone know how to kill a tree?

I was growing some tomatoes for a class project in school, and I had to bring he pot home for Winter Vacation. I think I need to transplant them into a bigger pot soon.....there are three of them (the biggest is six inches, the smallest is two inches.). I think they may be too close together, but I'm worried about moving the littlest one. It keeps on falling over (its stem is cracked, but I used a toothpick for a stake and used a small piece of tape to make sure it stayed up, and it has survived for about 2-3 weeks like this, with no problems.)
So, What should I do about the 2 in. plant??

Jim McDilda's holiday display last year included a 28-foot lighted arch, a 50-foot tree, 50,000 lights and dozens of animated silhouettes. The spectacle -- he needed a crane to set it all up -- lit up the sky and drew thousands of gawking visitors to his Redding, Calif., house.

This 28-foot lighted arch was a part of Jim McDilda's holiday display last year.
But nearby neighbors weren't so thrilled. Cars, limos and tour buses clogged the cul-de-sac, and trash was strewn across lawns. Christmas music blasting from Mr. McDilda's display kept neighbors awake. They complained to the city, which required that Mr. McDilda get a special-events permit and demanded that he remove the nearby cargo containers he used to store the display most of the year. After months of sniping between Mr. McDilda and the city, he decided to throw in the towel. This year, his house is unadorned.

Surface done in Minwax Poly shades - want to break the sealer to be able to stain over it -- will the liquid sand work for that and not distort the results of the new stain?

I have a door that I would like to colour several shades darker (to mahogany or even walnut).

It's likely to be plywood as opposed to real wood (the door sounds hollow).

Will wood stain even "take' properly on this type of surface? (I have tried sanding & white spirit on an offcut - the results were so-so.)

Any other way of prepping it? Any other primer or undercoat? Should I just use wood paint instead (it tends to look too glossy, that's my only problem - can't seem to find matt versions.)

Thoughts or advice?

I need base cabinets that can only be 14 inches deep.
I was thinking of buying unfinished wall cabinets (to use as the base cabinets) and then making the 4 inch high platform to put under the cabinets to raise them up.
Just wanted some opinions on this and how would I build the platform to support the cabinets?

We hired a contractor to pour concrete in our basement to level the floor this week, he finished the job okay. However we found out the next morning the bathtub in the basement is blocked. The contractor said they used the bathtub to get water but he claims no concrete should have fallen into the drain. I found lots of sand on bathroom floor and in the bathtub as well..

My husband and I tried draino but it doesn't work... Now i'm desperate...We just spent a fortune to fix the unlevelled basement, and now I need to rip off the bathtub?? What do I do? Is there anything I can buy to desolve the sand / concrete??

Please help me.... thanks a million...

Say on a corridor system where you might have 5 exits but one bulb. I'm aware of 2-way switches and the intermediate switch.

Never wired 4 switches up before. Do you just put another intermediate switch in?

They are just not full looking, it looks as if the stem length between the leaves is too long. The color isn't great either. I have them in a west facing window. I don't under or over water them. They are potted in Sta-Green container mix with fertilizer (too much potassium, maybe?). It's not that they've been dropping leaves, it's like there just never were enough leaves. I started two new ones from cuttings hoping they would be better but they look the same. They are big plants but I want them to look more full. Any suggestions?
