We just gave someone a check for $950, and now wonder if we overpaid.

It's a Bradford White 50 gallon water heater--not Home Depot brand, one contractors/builders use. $500 for heater.

First of all why did you put in an electric heater???? Gas water heaters are twice as efficient and less costly to run......secondly plumbers are like everybody else - thumb through the yellow pages and call 10-15 of them and you will get prices all over the place.....that job should have been no more than about 600-650 to me.....that was not even a 50 gallon heater....way too much...I live in michigan and had a 40 gallon commercial grade gas one put in 3 years ago and it was $565 installed.....restaurant grade!!!!!!

I was quoted about the same price for installing an 80 gal. electric hot water heater, including disposal of the old one. Seems like you should be paying less since your unit is about half the size of mine. Don't know from your question if you needed extra plumbing work done that is driving up the price. If not, I'd say the price is a bit high.

You need to go to Lowes.
Depending on the heater your getting, they can sell and install a new gas heater for you for less than $700.00. Electric would be between $500 and $600.

It's not that hard. You could have got the heater, installed it yourself and saved $400-$500.

depends on some things...
Warranty? How long?
did he take the old heater away?
I think you got a fair deal. We paid more...

it depends if it included the water heater, where he had to put it, did he have to add piping or duct work to it, did he dispose of the old one? if he had to do these or any other things to long to mention then it was worth it.

That sounds a little steep to me. It's always wise to get a several bids.
