usse the table, but put down a few towels first so you dont harm it. A granite counter would work too... just use the towels, they'll act like the ironing pad

I use a folded towel on a counter and set the iron on a plate for extra heat and tipping security. I have cut my own ironing board from plywood and covered it with a standard ironing board extra slippery cover and used it on a bed. I have a small board (about 30 inches) that comes with a cover and 4 short (3") screw in legs to stand it up on a counter or table so sleeves and other shapes can be pulled around the end - Wal-Mart or Target might sell it, don't remember where I got it.

There are to possibilities to this one: 1 - there was no real difference; its just that we never had all the negative reports in the press we have today. 2- Both Powers (USSR & USA) were more interested in stabilization within their own domains and expended MORE and MORE resources to tackle those internal issues. Nowadays its all about reducing government spending and building the economy, the problem is if we dont have a lucid population who will run the economy? Just a point to consider... PS the USA would never have invaded West Europe - what a lame idea - more likely the USA would have attempted to take the M.E. or N.E. Asia but oh well - the past is well, in the past

Maybe lay a thin towel along a table and iron on that? Improvisation is the key.

Take a bath towel and fold it in half or thirds and put it on a table. My mom did it for years and it works great!

Table, but don't let it get too hot and perhaps place a folded sheet underneath.
