I live in an 1100 square foot ranch in Michigan built in 1942. The furnace is 20+ years old and is located in the basement. Currentlly I have all the heat ducts in the basement closed off. Should I be heating the basement for maximum efficiency ??? Also, would humidifying the air in the basement help ???

Our furnace hasn't been working properly for three weeks now and living in Saskatchewan in winter makes that a very bad thing. It'll come on maybe once or twice a day, but the house is never above 17 degrees. Is there something my roommates and I can do (ie withhold rent) until it does get fixed? He knows about the problem, just refuses to do anything about it.

I just recently moved into an apartment. All of the things that are white and plastic have this on them, including inside cabinets, and in the bath tub. It doesn't wipe away with a cloth or water, I've been using disinfectant wipes. If anyone can help me at all I'd really appreciate it. No one has been feeling sick or anything like that so I'm just wondering what this is.

I live in Zone 6 in East TN. We have been having some warm wet weather the past week or so. It has been raining lightly the past few days and is supposed to rain the next few days. We are having temps in the upper 50's to lower 60's in the daytime and upper 30's to mid 40's at night. I put down some grass seed and starter fertilizer today to take advantage of the wet and warm weather. Do you think the grass seed will be ok. How much more warm weather will we need for the seed to be ok. Thanks for any answers

I bought glass jars from a dollar store, to store powdered hot chocolate mix in. I am now wondering if there's any chance these new containers aren't safe for food. They don't have the food-safe symbol on them, and they don't mention anything about decoration only, etc.
They are clear glass, no decorations, and they use the wire bale/metal clasp to keep secure the lid.
Any opinions or links would be greatly appreciated!

We have a 240 volt plug in our laundry room but my dryer is 220. Is this compatable?? I would really hate to take this back to get a gas dryer since our house is a rental and I'm not planning on ever needing a gas dryer.

It is an indoor plant already that I will be cutting. It will not be the roots; just the upper half of the stem and leaves. Can I place it in a jar of water? Will it grow? Thank you.

Wondering if anyone knew of some sites that have 800 thread count WHITE queen size sheets, either Egyptian Cotton or Cotton, no Sateen or anything. Also in a reasonable price range, nothing outrageous.

Any help and sites are appreciated. Thank you for your time.

My Yardmachines snowblower tires have flattened and are not sealing correctly when I try to fill them. They are tubeless and I just can't seem to get the tires to seal enough to hold air. Is there a special trick like expanding them so they catch the lip enough to hold air? Website says take them to a pro but if I can do it I would prefer to of course.

Live in New England and have an existing boiler.
I would like to be able to use both wood pellets and #2 oil depending on the price. Is there a way to convert so I can have the option. Company Names would be good!

Our furnace ran out of oil yesterday and our landlord had some delivered. However, the furnace went into lock-out mode and had an air bubble in a tube (or something?). Anyway, the landlord gave me instructions over the phone on how to get the air out; however, when I adjusted the valve/screw thing some oil spurted out and got on the inside of the furnace.

I wiped it out and then cleaned it out with soapy water to help cut through the oil. The landlord said this happened to him before and that the smell in the house is essentially just the oil that wasn't removed burning off. From what I understand it's kerosene. I'm not sure of the make of the furnace but it's forced air upstairs.

It totally stinks and I basically just want to make sure that:

a) It's not dangerous (i.e. breathing it in won't be harmful, a fire isn't going to start, etc.)

b) How can we get the smell out quicker? Additionally, for those who have had this problem, how long does it generally take to get the smell out
