You meant to say permanent marker on the book spine?

Depending on the quality of the cover. If it's unglossed paper, I'm afraid there's no way to remove it - porous surfaces. If it is on glossed paper, you still stand a chance by trying out the Magic Eraser with the tiniest bit of water.

You could remove most of the ink but I don't thing you can remove it totally.

Why not look for some cute wrappers and wrap the whole book ? ? ?

Use a cotton ball and some medical alcohol.

Soak the cotton ball with the alcohol and rub where the permanent marker is on the book until the mark of the permanent marker is gone.
