I live in Zone 6 in East TN. We have been having some warm wet weather the past week or so. It has been raining lightly the past few days and is supposed to rain the next few days. We are having temps in the upper 50's to lower 60's in the daytime and upper 30's to mid 40's at night. I put down some grass seed and starter fertilizer today to take advantage of the wet and warm weather. Do you think the grass seed will be ok. How much more warm weather will we need for the seed to be ok. Thanks for any answers

I say save the money and seed after the last frost. Then you can aerate in the fall and reseed next year in fall. The seed won't have enough time to root and build a suffencient support system for the winter. more yhan 70 percnt of the seeds will die before next spring. take this time to Dethatch and lime the yard to get the pH up to par, then next year you wont have a problem. You'll be laying on Green Carpet by next Fall

Cold Weather Grass Seed

All the seed needs is to germinate and get growing a little bit before really cold weather sets in. I have had much better success seeding in fall than in spring. The winds here in spring really dry things out quickly. The weather you are having is ideal for seeding. It needs to stay that way a few more weeks for you seed to be successful. It is kind of late but you could be successful if it holds.

Seeds typically will survive the winter if they do not germinate before they freeze. If they germinate and do not get enough of a root grown then it will die with the freeze.
Many Golf courses throw seed down all winter long with the knowledge that it will stay dormant until spring and germinate with spring rains. So just be careful not put down the seed when it could start to germinate then freeze.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

Yes. The seeds that are dropped by plants normally survive the winter and germinate in the spring.

I live in the north and we have planted grass before in the fall. it just needs time to just start growing and then it can freeze and it will come back up in the spring. I think you will great grass come spring, good luck.
