We moved our en-suite around and as a result the hot tap supply doesn't run anymore. It did do before, and we have no leaks or disconnections, the water is in the pipe. But it is as if there is not enough pressure there. the basin has only moved 1' to the left and the pipe hasn't been extended. Why would this happen?
Any ideas? thanks!

I am now a stay at home mom and want to redo my living room, but I'm bad at pulling things together on my own, even though I can look at a catalog and say, I like that room, I don't like that room. I would find it hard to make my room look like those rooms without throwing everything away - I'm sure anyone could do it if they bought every item brand new. However, I'm trying to save money for actually purchasing new pieces and can't really afford to hire a decorator.

I have also seen commercials that certain furniture places like Ethan Allen offer free advice (i'm sure they'd like you to buy from them) - anyone tried this?

My biggest obstacle is that we have sage carpet with taupe colored walls and it's not that old, plus we have a 7 month old, so I really don't want to change it to hardwood for comfort reasons at this time. I'm having trouble picking a sofa fabric and color that will look okay now and be good with baby-related stains, but I'll still like later.

I don't know what caused the smell, I just want to get the smell out of the carpet. I tried steam cleaning it with a rug doctor, but it's still there. What can I use to get it out?

Can you dissolve shellac in Everclear or similar strength food-grade spirits? I would prefer to use a non-toxic spirit than something like methylated spirits etc.

From what I can tell, there is nothing chemically special about methylated or other "denatured" alcohols. "Denatured" simply means that toxins have been added to regular alcohol to make it unsuitable for human concumption, thereby avoiding alcoholic beverage tax - essentially they poison regular alcohol so you can't drink it, and therefore it can be sold cheaper.

So, regular alcohol should dissolve the shellac fine ... albeit at a proper strength level. I tried with white rum (40%) with no luck ... Everclear is over 90%.

LOL I always have socks that mysteriously disappear and pretty soon I run out of matches for them! They never turn up, even months later.

Just wondered if anyone else has been visited by the sock monster. ;-)

I have 2 very young children, and a beige carpet in our living/dining area, so you can imagine my dilema! The worst stain is my fault though, an old coffee stain. I have tried different things, and finally bought a steam cleaner, but even that doesn't completely get rid of it. Help me, please....even when the living room is clean, it looks filthy.

I am sure it's different from city to city, so I'm interested in how the different cold cities handle running water in the winter time. When it gets really really cold, how does the city prevent freezing water in the underground piping systems? Does frozen water damage pipes? If so which pipes are better than others (I heard that copper is really bad, so what are the alternatives)?

I am turning one of our spare bedrooms into an office. My husband played college football so that is the theme. I painted the walls a very bold copper and gold (team colors). The door and trim are all white as it is throughout our entire house. I have a bunch of great blown up pictures of him playing football that are all in black frames. I'm trying to do this as inexpensive as possible. Will the black frames look tacky with the white trim?

These 2 guys are out of a job for now and need some extra cash. Im not sure how much construction gets paid. They need to dig a hole about 3 feet across and 6 feet long. The ground is already soft so no roots.

Any ideas on where I might find some high quality draperies for inexpensive price. I hired a decorator in the past that helped me pick fabrics and had the drapes made. I'm on a MUCH stricter budget now. I am open to trying to make my own drapery panels & roman shades. I just need to know where did she find the good fabrics.

Ok, so I have a toilet in my house. When I moved it the previous tenant said there was a "trick" to the toilet. I was going to wait to get it fixed but now that xmas is coming... thats not happening. So..... Here it goes!

-The "trick".
When I flush the toilet, I have to reach under the toilet and tank and turn the water off at the wall then back on. I can hear the water start to fill the tank and all is well.

-I tried to tinker with it myself by trying various things (but not disconnecting anything). Now..... This is the NEW problem.

When the water is on, I hear the toilet running but it does not fill the tank, just a about a half inch or so. When I try to flush it, there is no tension and no change in noise or water level. It just wiggles like its not attached to anything.

Its not one of the ones with the big balloon in it if that helps with the innards description.

Any ideas?

Also, can you guys specify what you would rather buy new, used, or does it matter?
