Twin beds are actually not the smallest adult beds. In certain areas, people still by "single" beds. They are smaller than twins. Twin (about half the size) beds are an upgrade from single but still smaller than full; or Queen-sized.

Back in the day when couples didn't sleep in the same bed, mom and dad had identical beds separated by a night stand. Twins. It makes you wonder how any of us ever came to be.

because twin means 2 that are together and look alike in some ways like twin children.So a twin bed has to beds so its called a twin bed.

In the olden days, (talking one room houses), if a mother had twins, they had to sleep in the same bed and the size was meant for 1 person.

I'm guessing because there were usually two in the same room, like on "I Love Lucy" when married couples were shown sleeping in separate twin beds.

a king bed is 2 twins so when you have twins or 2 children you split it in half and they each have a bed!

Because suposedly, it's like two beds put together, where two people can sleep. BUt it's actually smaller than two beds, and can be used for small twins who are young enough to sleep together, or just for one person

If you watch the "I love Lucy" show, you will see that in ancient time, husband and wife did not share the same bed unless they were ready to conceive. So they slept in two identical beds: twin

i think becouse of how the sizes go u know like king being the biggest queen being second biggest u know its what the sizes r i know what your saying its like y is it called a bunk bed it should be twin bed becouse 2 people can sleep on it

They are slimmer than a full or double which slept two, which had been the standard size sold until the 60's and very often, they were sold in twos and each was meant for a single sleeper.
