Just looking for new ideas on what people buy to try and boost my sales.
Also, can you guys specify what you would rather buy new, used, or does it matter?

musicimp-thanks for your detailed answer! And yes, I already put in my listings that I do not make money for S/H-it's only to cover fees & shipping materials.

Ebay seems to be the perfect niche for things like

Collectibles...and when I say this, I think it should also be said that if you are selling it you should know something about the item. Don't try to sell antiques and such, without knowing something about the time period or the type of piece you are handling. Things like merchandise from tv shows and movies are HUGE on eBay. Star Wars stuff, for example, or cartoon lunch boxes.

Books, videos, albums, CD's, esp rare or vintage

Clothes, esp batches of one size such as kid's outgrown clothes, similar sized maternity clothes, plus sized weight loss clothes.

Trading cards...sports, pokemon, etc.

Autographed memorabilia.

Jewelry

Small appliances

Sports and camping equipment.

Most of these things are easy to ship, as well as keeping a lot of value even though they are used.

One thing I can recommend for you is to advertise that you do NOT make money on shipping. Lots of people advertise a very low purchase price on their items and then you look at their shipping and it is way more than it would cost to send that item. Don't do that. Most people feel like it is deceptive.

Also advertise everything you try to sell with PHOTOS and as many specifications about the product as possible. As well as contact info if they have questions.

Price is my #1 concern. Why risk if the price is not cheaper? If unit prices of your products are rather low, it's unlikely I would buy online even if it's lowe than local price. The shipping basically takes away the price advantage.

Also maybe I would buy from Ebay if it's a rare item.

That's just me!

I buy all kinds of antiques. I especially like antique tools, pictures and lithographs, books, bottles, and furniture.
I have also bought a lot of clothes - particularly jeans and t-shirts.

I love shopping on Ebay!
