I have some carpenter ants near my privacy fence and also in a spot near my lawnmower shop. What are the best ways to rid? Call an exterminator? I don't want to leave those spots a toxic dump just to rid them.

I have several different types of flowering plants including geraniums in flower boxes. Almost all of them are developing brown-edged leaves. The only thing I put in the flower boxes is water and every two weeks some liquid fertilizer in water. I'm so disappointed. I've raised them all, except the geraniums, from seeds. I've used potting soil to plant them.

Does anyone know what this could be from? Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks, Ann

We live in South Texas. We are moving to a brand new house in December with all Energy efficent windows and good insulation. The house is a 2 story with 2700 square feet and since the house we live in now is old and only 1400 square feet, I am trying to get an idea of what type of energy costs we would be looking at having to pay.

Is anyone in this same situation that can give me some insight?? Thanks so much!

I inherited a beautiful dresser from my grandpa. The drawers don't smell when I snif them, but when I put my clothes in them, they come out smelling just like him! I miss him terribly, so at first I found this comforting. Now I just want the smell gone!

This has been a source of many debates in my family. My mom says the best way to wash clothes is to put the clothes in the washer, then put the detergent in, then turn the machine on. I say that you should put the detergent in first, turn the machine on, and let the water and detergent mix a little, THEN add the clothes. Comments? Opinions? Suggestions? Thanks.

I recently purchased a home in the Seattle area that is perched up on a hill with the yard sloping steeply to the street. It's all grass now on the slope which is NOT easy to maintain. It's too steep for a mower so I need to use the trimmer - which means I'm perched with one foot up, one foot down balancing while I whack the weeds. I'd like to remove the grass altogether and create a terrace garden with either railroad ties or rock. Has anyone taking on a project like this themselves? I really don't have the funds now to pay a landscaping company to do this for me - plus I want the satisfaction of doing it myself. Plus it's not a huge amount of space to complete - only about 30 feet from the house to the street. Any suggestions for best plants to use, best way to remove grass, websites with examples?

Thanks! :)

I'm 56 and want to start decorating my house. I have chosen the out of date look of Home country look by Debbie Mumm, I am quite crafty and can sew up a storm so fell I can make do, but do you have ideas on how to search for sites besides ebay that might show older mumm stuff ? Or suggestions. I am open to comments and even if you don't agree with me, I'd like to hear about your giftedness since decorating isn't mine :)

Any ideas - have tried most things but scared to use anything too strong. It's a good quality chocolate brown colour, which shouldn't fade when rubbed.

Any tips would be most grateful!
