Thank you for your answers, but sorry - I messed up! I meant to say that my faucets, etc. are polished CHROME!! But I'm not liking many of the Polished Chrome lighting fixtures, so I was hoping I had another option?

I have 7 sprinkler zone in our system, 3rd and 4th zone work together when timer reaches 3rd or 4th zone position. I changed the solenoid switchs for 3rd and 4th zone, but the problem still exists. What could be the issue?

I'm sure I can't mix with pewter, polished nickel or brass - but what about Neo Silver or Imperial Bronze or something else?

Your garden variety garage door opener has two incandescent bulbs in it. Normally I would not give substituting an incandescent bulb with a CF a second thought. However, to signal a problem such as an obstruction in the path of the door, it will cause the lights to flash several times, which I'm concerned may damage the bulb or the garage door opener.

I have a problem with my glasses. There are spots that I have to literally scrape off the inside of the glasses. Or I have to soak all my dishes before they go in to the dishwasher. What can I do for this. I am having to put 1 cup of Baking soda in with the dishes to even get them clean.

I have tried Electrolsol tabs and cascade pillows with the dawn. I have also tried the Cascade liquid with the bleach... it works and then there is a a build up of some sort....

I was sent a product to sample in my home, it was electrolsol but it worked like a dream. I tried the Electrolsol on the shelf and well it didn't work the same. Is there more then one kind of electrolsol? That was the best stuff!

Thanks!

We have a townhouse, (2 floors of living space and a basement) in NYC and use only window a/c. Would a dehumidifier help? I know that reducing the humidity will help the air feel cooler, but will the cost of running the unit outweigh the benefits?

I've hear you can sterilize sponges in the microwave...wasn't sure if this was true or not, or if anyone has actually done it and how you actually do it.

I am thinking of building a bed frame that would essentially put the mattress on a platform with a sheet of plywood underneath. The boxspring is going to make the bed too high to get into.

Should I build shorter to keep the boxspring in use for the warranty, or does it even matter? It will still be a sturdy, level area for the mattress to sit on.

Just for fun I planted a black oil sunflower seed from my birdfeeder in a cup of plotting dirt. Now the seed has sprouted a root, but the seed is upside down, so the root is heading to the top of the cup. It has already changed its direction so its heading towards the bottom of the cup, but I am worried about the stem when it grows. Should I try to replant it the right way?

We live in a suburb of a major city. We need some work done on our roof. We've called half-a-dozen contractors recommended by friends and colleagues. Either they don't return our calls or they make appointments and never show up. We keep hearing "next week...next week..." and then nothing ever happens. We're not looking to "cheap it out." We'll pay the going rate--we just need someone to come. These companies take big expensive ads in the Yellow Pages saying they handle jobs just like ours--so why aren't they interested? Is there some special "code" or "language" you use with contractors to get them to show up?

we've bought a new house but in the kitchen there are these hideous lilac tiles. Should i replace them or can i paint them to a good finish?

I think I need to replace a ballast and wanted to check it out last night. But my wife and mother-in-law were in the kitchen so I kinda rushed things. I turned the light on (the lights don't come on but the fixture hums) thinking when I cut the right circuit the noise would stop. It never did. Is it more likely I missed the circuit, or could the humming have continued in spite of the fact I cut power to it?

We have a new house, still under warranty, and the builder is stating that the bubbles in the bathroom paint are not his responsibility to fix. Is he right?

My apartment smells like paint. I haven't painted, the hallway doesn't smell like paint, and I can't smell paint outside any of my neighbors apartments. I'm a little worried it could be gas I'm smelling. My stove is electric, and it's the middle of the summer. Could I still smell gas? If it's not gas, how do I get rid of the odor? It's giving me a headache.
