I am moving into a foreclosure. The carpet is badly stained in some areas. I can't afford to replace all of the carpet. Do you know how to effectively remove stains from carpet? Resolve doesn't work.

Wahhh. I've got a gnat infestation (feel worse for the neighbor though who seems to have thousands of them hovering in his yard.) They like the bathrooms and kitchen the most but also go to other areas and are almost at the point of almost attacking me (they hover in front of my face and when I try to swat, I usually miss and I think they are really waiting for me to turn my back so they can contaminate my food after flying from being who knows where else). My husband fixed the pipe works so I don't think they're coming from there. We also have other insects such as earwigs or something similar, various species of spiders, the occasional roaches, various species of flies and beetles, and some other bugs that I haven't named yet, and I'm concerned that if I go natural, the remedies may cancel each other out or draw in more little beasties.
Do foggers work in a large room that's probably, let's just say 800 square ft? Short of professionals, any other suggestions?

How come my shower drain smells shortly after turning water on? It is an 'off' smell kind of like rotten eggs.

It happens on the other two nearby drains at times but water doesn't pass through them as often (laundry floor type drains).

I thought maybe there's some kind of residue that won't go down the drain or something?

We're not connected to a well, and its been like this since we bought the house. We've tried Drano but, from memory, that only fixed it for a while if at all...

I am going nuts!
I used to live in Chicago, and had a great job working 40-60 hour weeks, but am now stuck in another country without a job.
Needless to say, I am bored, and don´t know what to do with my time.

I have tried volunteering here, but no work is available in this area, and I´m about to pull my hair out.

What do you do with all of this free time? I clean, cook, organize closets, etc. and still have so much time on my hands.

I get sweat / oil stains on the collar of my cotton dress shirts. When I clean them at home, I treat them with a stain remover (such as Zout) immediately after taking them off (before the stain sets) and again before laundering (sometimes several days later).

I am just starting to use a cleaner for my shirts and wondering how I should handle this. It seems like it makes sense to pre-treat the stained collars, before the stain sets, but I am wondering if this will be incompatible with anything that the cleaner does. These are all 100% cotton shirts.

Thanks for any advice.

Bonus Q: Does the cleaner simply launder these shirts, or use some special process?

I'm moving out soon and I need the walls to be back to normal for the sake of my deposit!

I've been told I need poly-filler, but how does it work?

HELP! I have a clog in what seems like the back of that snake-like pipe in the toilet. I have tried two buckets of hot water and dish soap to no avail. I think it is because it can't sit right on the clog. I don't have an auger, and no place nearby has one. Before I have to disassemble, any help?? Again, it seems to be at the top of the snake at the back... thanks.! And please hurry!!!!!

One of the electrical outlets that has been working the past 7+ years failed on me. Took a voltage measurement with my mulitmeter and got 27V instead of the expected120V. What could've caused this? A weakness in the line perhaps? If so, does this mean wall must be removed to fix it?

I was planning to move out but have been asked by my parents not to since my mother works full time plus lots of over time and my fathers poor health... with that being said

I am moving out of my very small room into our garage/family room. The previous owners made it part of the house and sealed off the outside entries and made their own bar (which my parents also used for parties) so the room is insulated and such. So, there is a bar along one of the walls. Everyone tells me to keep it... especially my friends.. they want me to use it as an actual bar.. but I have no desire to do so.. so.. anyone have any ideas as to what I can use it for? I'm a writer and I thought of making it a huge writing area where I can stash all my writing supplies where the alcohol was stocked... but that seems too bland. Any ideas? and any cool/neat room ideas would be awesome. I'll be 24 and I love pink but the walls are dark brown panneling. I've never had a cool room.. always just plain white walls

I want to wash my sleeping bag but the directions say only to use a front loading washer. The reason I'm asking is because my mom told me she had already washed it once before in her top loading washing machine. It looks perfectly fine and doesn't seem damaged to me. I'm thinking that the agitator in the top loading machines is probably why the label says that. Is this because of the fibers inside of the bag? What if I just use a gentler cycle? (It's only been washed once by my mom. The bag is only a few years old, and this is only the second time it's going to be washed.) Please don't leave a yes/no answer unless you can give me a reason why. Thanks :)

Every room i paint in this house starts peeling very quickly, and will come off very easlily with small pressure appied to it.

The first room i painted was mine, i didn't wash the walls or anything, only started to peel in a few spots. Every time i paint a room it peels worse. The last one i cleaned all the walls thoroughly first just to make sure that wasn't the problem, it is the worst room yet. if you push anything against it slightly big pieces of paint will tear off.

I do at least 2 coats, except for one room which i was painting white onto white so i just painted one coat.

I want to paint another room(The first room i painted actually, its been several years now) and I want to prevent this from happening this time.
