I am going nuts!
I used to live in Chicago, and had a great job working 40-60 hour weeks, but am now stuck in another country without a job.
Needless to say, I am bored, and don´t know what to do with my time.

I have tried volunteering here, but no work is available in this area, and I´m about to pull my hair out.

What do you do with all of this free time? I clean, cook, organize closets, etc. and still have so much time on my hands.

I went thru something similar. If you are not a parent and are used to working and suddenly stay home in a new place it is boring. Even with hobbies and exploring it is sometimes hard to keep busy - especially if you are doing things alone.

I found that if I set up a schedule of things to do each week it would help.

I bought a Lonely Planet book on my city/area. wrote down the things I wanted to see or do and put them on my list. Included my "chores around the house", exercise, any other thing that would come up.

Then I could see how my time was being planned (kind of what you do if you had a job for time management). Keeping it with some sort of routine and format seemed to help me work thru the boredom.

Anyway, good luck.

Wow! At first I thought this was going to be a sarcastic question...I am so glad it is not. As a stay at home Mom I am so busy all the time, I do not have hardly a moment for myself -- ever. If I were in your position I would explore the new country, talk to the locals, read, crochet, take long walks, explore the Internet, the possibilities are endless. I hope you find things to occupy yourself. I envy you because I need to get off here and start a very busy day that will go on and on and I will never get everything done.
Peace.

Take up a hobby...sell your extra items on e-bay, Bake something for a elderly neighbor and make a friend, maybe after breaking the ice you can find out if they need help with anything ( which is usually appreciated). Make a cup of tea and read a book. Explore the new place you are in and maybe pick up Christmas / Hanukkah gifts that are unique. Do some genealogy searches on the Internet. Hope this helps..

Check out what the locals do. Walk around and see the sights. When you say your stuck there, do you mean you can't leave, If I was that bored and I could go back home I'd be out of there in a flash.

You must not have children..... As as a SAHM.. I'm constantly busy with my children... Not only am I cleaning/organizing my home.. I'm going grocery shopping and taking the kids to the park, zoo and everywhere I go... You may want to try getting involved in a group... Church... or some other organization to keep you entertained or get a job....

Do you have kids? I'm guessing no becuase with three kids and being a full time "homemaker" I never have any free time. But I'm not complaining, because I'm grateful that my signifigant other makes enough to afford me to stay home with my kids, but it would be nice if he helped out a little more, lol

Well then, get your butt round here, as I've got mountains of house work and not enough hours in the day to do all mine, and don't tell me to get off the PC cos I'm havin' a coffee break and I really need one!

Lets see, you can plant a garden full of vegetables, plant flowers all around your house, paint your house, then when you finish that go to your neighbors and do theirs.

Write...
Everyone has a story to tell, so start writing.
Or listen to everyone else and go explore.
