Depending on the weight of the fabric for your canopy, you may be able to do this with teacup hooks and some monofilament (fishing line) or thin wire and either hem it in, or run it and then install the wire, or use tiny button holes and invisible/tiny/clear rings. If you want it to disappear that is. If you don't then you could use anything from a copper wire to a fancy silk cord with tassels and suspend with pretty curtain clips.

If it is really light and airy fabric, you could also attach a loop to the canopy where the corners attach (factoring in a certain amount of swooping and draping, and hang by the loops from hooks in each corner above the bed, thus eliminating the need for fishing line or wire.

I saw on Trading Spaces a few years ago they used curtain rods screwed into the ceiling. I imagine they used toggle bolts so it would be more secure.
