I always heard that you could leave out cut lemon slices and for whatever reason, it repels the ants. It wouldn't hurt to try..

Some people have suggested using chalk. I don't know if it works or not: I never tried it. Others suggest leaving cornmeal down: Apparently the ants eat it but can't digest it. Again, I can't vouch for it.

What I did do was start keeping a spray bottle of diluted Lysol in the kitchen, and keeping the sugar in an empty coffee tin (which has a very good seal). And apparently that does work: I see far fewer ants now than I used to.

Good luck!

I battle with ants every year. We to have small children in the house. Unfortunately the only ways to battle these pest is with chemicals So what we do is use the chemical outside around the house and if you use the crap out of Tupperware or zip lock bags. They won't have any reasons to come in for food. They even like chips so you have to seal everything up. Roll them will not work!!! It means everything you open must go into the refrigerator after or into a air tight container. Even if it is not sugary. They eat everything. This means hair products too! All smelly bathroom things in sir tight containers. Really it sounds hard but after you start putting everything in airtight seals it really gets so much easier and helps keep things clean and really organized!!

Terro. Check with feed stores.
Try to find where they are entering.
I followed some one time from my kitchen. Damn things led me to the bath where they were coming in from an opening under the baseboard. Used Terro and sealed off their entry.
They do not nest in the house, they are in the ground.
