Can I add a water softener to the iron piping that feeds and returns water to my homes hot water boiler? I suspect there is scaling inside the pipes and also wonder if this would help at all,

Our small back porch is in bad shape. It doesn't appear to be connected to the house anymore, if it ever was, and chuncks are missing. It is leaning away from the house.

What should I do with it?

I'm thinking of using a large propane heater, like the kind you may be familiar with at outdoor restaurants and bars, inside a (mostly) enclosed tent, and my gut tells me this will be a good way to create carbon monoxide. Is there a way to have a portable heating device inside a 20'x20' tent without causing such problems?

I had one installed in 1999, it leaked 2 months after. That was fixed(must not have been). Leaked (again) in 2004 and now (again) the last day of 2006. Anyone else had this problem?

Often businesses have a busy season and a slow season, is this true of roofers? I was just wondering if there is a time of year when roofers might give someone a better deal than others.

Our small backyard is cut in half by a large shed. Basically, we have two yards, one that has immediate access to the house and one that you have to take a walkway between the shed and garage to get to. You can't see one yard from the other. The "extra" backyard behind the shed is 14 x 16, and is covered in gravel right now.

I hate that ugly gravel mess, but I don't know what to do with it. Any ideas?
