Our small backyard is cut in half by a large shed. Basically, we have two yards, one that has immediate access to the house and one that you have to take a walkway between the shed and garage to get to. You can't see one yard from the other. The "extra" backyard behind the shed is 14 x 16, and is covered in gravel right now.

I hate that ugly gravel mess, but I don't know what to do with it. Any ideas?

About moving the shed...it's really big and sits on a concrete foundation.

Can you move the shed back in the gravel area? That would enlarge the first yard near your house.
Or depending on the exposure you could put in a garden after removing the gravel. Or you could pave over the gravel and make a basketball area.

Assuming you don't have drainage issues, you can top that gravel with an inch or two of topsoil and plant lawn grass on top.

I'm also having a hard time visualizing your mess. Couldn't you just move the shed over as well?

You should try some container gardening. You can buy all kinds of large containers and fill with vegetables or flowers, depending on the amount of sunlight you get. You'd be surprised at how this can brighten up even the dullest of landscapes.
