Granite has just been installed on our kitchen countertop. But the edges still have scratches. How can I make it as shiny as the countertop itself? Also, what is a good sealer for granite? Do I need to apply one now?

Ok listen, my pump to drain water out of my house, burned out, (damned rain). I've tried bailing it with buckets, and using my shop vac, both worked effectivly untill the shop vac acted weird and didnt want to suck any more water, and the water was almost all gone, now its back almost to the top. Bailing the water stopped working, and the pump i can say is officialy burnt out. Its 3:25 AM and this is really pissing me off, any suguestions?

My fiance and i have been living together for 1 year and a half. everything is great, but i am fed up with his messiness. everyday is the same routine. he gets off work, and messes the place up. i can't stand the wet towels on the floor, his work clothes strewn everywhere, bags of chips and soda cans on the floors, the list goes on and on...trust me. i've tried talking to him, and he will help for a few days, but then it's back to the same old thing again. i feel like i am cleaning 24/7....it gets so frustrating to the point that it brings tears to my eyes at times because i hate my house being messy after i cleaned it all day. friends say men are just slobs, but is there any way to get him to start helping around the house>

I have a wallpaper that when painted, it looks almost exactly like stucco. I am painting it using a colorwashing technique. Since it looks like stucco, would it be cosmetically appealing if I used wayne's coating with it also?
The waynes coating is dark wood, trimming around doors, etc., is dark wood, and stucco-looking-wallpaper is a light tan on off white (very pretty by the way...). Would this be okay to put into a living room with pink carpet? Any thoughts?

We are decorating our sons (ages 8 and 20 months) with a medieval knights theme. We have 2 large MegaBlok castles that will be set up in the room (well continuously set up and torn back down again) as well as a castle bouncer ball pit that my 20 month old will be getting for Christmas so we thought we would take those large toys and base our them on that since they will be such a large part of the room. I want to limit the expense as much as possible so I'm looking for inexpensive, creative ideas to make this a really fun room the kids will love to be in. I've seen lots of beautiful murals for ideas but they are really expensive and I am not a painter by any means so I need ideas for painting or decorating the wall, what to make to fit the theme to store toys in or place books or games on, etc. Thanks!!!

I just bought a new home, the realtor said as long as the furnace is working don't worry about it. But 1965 is pretty darn old. How do I know if its time to replace it? Also, I always seem to notice a very faint gas smell just around the furnace itself - the gas company just serviced the furnace so i imagine its okay but it has be a bit worried as the furnace is near my kid's bedrooms. thoughts?

We have a load bearing wall that is exactly in the middle of our house that seperates the dining room from the living room. All of the walls in our house are block walls all the way through. In the attic, there are boards that go diagonally from the roof to where the wall is. I assume the wall is load bearing. Can the wall be removed and replaced with a column(s) to open up the space? What is the rule for how many columns I need for how long the opening is?
