I have several tomato plants. They were blooming like crazy until a few weeks ago and then they stopped. Upon further inspection I noticed the flowers (and now some of the leaves) are being eaten. I have chicken wire around the plants and the affected areas are a good 4 feet off the ground, so I'm discounting smaller rodents. I also do not have deer in the area. Birds maybe? Does anyone know what could be the problem, and how I can resolve it?

We don't have central air (yes, it sucks) but are wondering what tips you can offer about cooling things off a bit during this hot summer. Thanks!

When my washing machine empties after each cycle, it overflows the drain in the wall. I ran a plumbers snake through the pipe and found no blockage. If I shut the machine down a few times as it drains out I can keep the pipe from overflowing. Could the washer be pumping the water out too quickly? The machine is at least 16 years old.

Heres the problems:

1) Main floor: 75% of the entire amount of cold air coming out the vents to the main floor comes out a single vent (there are 4 total) down in a hallway. Pretty crappy! THe other ones have almost NOTHING coming out. Tiny air flow.

2) On the second floor, only one vent (the bathroom) gets much air out of it at all. The other vents (1 in each of the 3 berooms) gets almost nothing. This is the worst because I can't sleep when its hot! (question: Would plugging the vents in the other 2 rooms get more into mine?)

3) Overall the coldness of the air coming out is GREATLY diminished last year from last.

WHAT SHOULD I DO!? Is it safe to try and fix the conditioner unit yourself? I've heard you should clean it and this may be what is preventing it from cooling effectively. What about air exchanges?

As a side, my bedroom has two exchanges...one up high, and one down low on the wall. One was plugged with carboard. Which should be open (or both)

I have a gutter that looks like it's falling down and I am thinking about calling one of those handyman services in the phone book, but I was wondering if anyone knew how much they can cost. If it costs too much then I don't want to waste my time calling them and having some guy come to my house.

My garage door is like 11 years old almost. It just dawn on me that I use to just press the remote or the button inside the garage once and the door would either open or close automatically. With one push it will open but now I have to hold the button until it closes otherwise it just dances up and down. What is up with that?

A number of duplex outlets on one side of the house were not allowing lamps to come on and the night light was extremely dim. I measured the voltage at between 26-28 volts AC. I'm not sure what could cause this
