Well, if the paint is latex paint, (as most indoor paints are now), it should be water soluble. First things first, I'd pour a glass of water over the stained areas and let it sit for a minute to break up the paint. Then, I'd spray some carpet cleaner (Resolve, or even a shake-able carpet cleaner) and let that soak in.

When it comes to the cleaning, the first thing that you need to do it to soak up whatever paint is already loose. Put down a dry rag and step on it (or push really hard) until you have soaked up whatever paint has broken down. The reason for doing this is because if you don't, you'll end up spreading the dilluted paint over an even larger area as you scrub the carpet.

After you've gotten up as much as you can, it's time to scrub. Alternate water, cleaner, soaking, and scrubbing as much as you need to until it comes up. It is also important to do this as soon as you can, before the paint has permanently stained the area. I repeated this process 4 or 5 times, but was able to remove dark purple paint from a very light berber as well.

I hope that this works for you. If it doesn't, you might rent a carpet steamer from a hardware store or call a local steamer. If all else fails, get a rug to cover it up!!

Good Luck- let me know how it all works out.
