Mental Health - September 2006

I am wondering about this medicine because my doctor said he would highly recommend it to anyone in his own family but i have read so many bad things online under search results that i am now scared t take it. The articles mentioned such things as suicde, adultry, disassociation from family members, road rage, violence, vision problems etc etc, so if anyone can tell me some of their own experiences whether good or bad i would really appreciate it, thank you...

If you have any brain left then you know what it is going to do to you so why do it? Two of my good friends are addicts and it makes me so sad because there is nothing I can say or do that will make them stop and seek help. I have thought about turning them in to the police, But our local police is a joke and because they don't "cook" it nothing will ever be done. ANY ADVICE?

If so, what's a good treatment??

I get really nervous when I'm around people I don't know. If I'm in a shopping center alone, I usually feel dizzy and have a headache by the time I leave. It also interferes with my classes at college, because I'm focusing more on my nervousness than listening to the instructor.

When a person is found to be "paronoid schizophrenia" .. why do these people tend to think that the Government is watching them ? The CIA is following them ? A chip has been placed in their head by the Govt ? Why don't they think of someone or something else ? Like "Fred down the street is trying to poison me" ? Why does it usually involve the arms of Government ? .. And why do some people chose to think they are "Jesus" . or whomever else is famous that they chose ? .. Why not someone else from history like Albert Einstein. I am really curious .. if you have a serious answer to this .. please let me know and thank you ! :)

When my husband is out of twon i can't be productive. I just an't see me to do my shcool work or my work work. I also hate be home at night....i just fell very scared. I am not a kid i am an adult and i just hate to have this feeling.

I also can't sleep at all..then when he is back i am normal again. I told him and we talked about it, but he has to go to different state and work once in a while. When he does he is gone for one week, I can't tell him not go because he has to work to support as. Please advice only if you are serious if you are not don't bother!

My friend just IMed me that she was going to kill herself. I was trying to convincem her not to from 5-7 pm. Then in the middle of the converstion she just signed off. I called her house but no one anwsered. I dont want to call the police cause suicide's illegal in the US. and if she got arested she would probably try again.
I think this is partial my falt becasue last may i did the same- minus the sign off. i ended up going to ST. Vincents after swalowing 12 tynols. the docter had said i almost did it. I ended up going to a phyc ward for 1 week, and the an outpaitent program for 2 months.
But back to subject, what should i do?

I forgot to take my meds (75mg. Effexor & 100mg Topamax) yesterday and now I feel dizzy and sick and just crappy. I took my meds this morning, but how long do I have to wait before I feel better?

And is there something I can do so I don't keep forgetting to take my meds?

I moved to Las Vegas with a room mate almost 3 years ago. I love it here and most of the time can say I love my job. But I don't make a lot of money for a place like this and need some help. I think my room mate is going to move out and if he does I am going to be living on the street. He makes a lot more money then I do and I don't know if I can make it without him at this point. I do have a lot of things that I can sell to make some money...having an apartment sale or something like that. And I am getting my notary which can help to bring in money too. I am just so worried right now and not sure what to do. I know how to get the bills paid...at least how things are right now...but what do I do if he leaves? I will have to vacant my apartment...hopefully they will work with me on that one and let me move into a 1 bedroom....but what are the best ways to save money?

Sometimes I'm just very happy, and then I'll be depressed again. I'm 17 and never had a boyfriend, it's also my last year in highschool. I really want to be a doctor, and I'll try but I know that I most likely won't be accepted because my grades aren't high enough. I don't think I'm really pretty either, so I have low self esteem. I don't know what to do anymore. I bet I won't ever find a guy who will like me.

This person just got fired from their job. They've also recently suffered from ailing health, an emotionally devastating break-up, and depression after failed attempts at a few new relationships. Anything I can do, I will. Better safe than sorry, even at the risk of being intrusive.

I just went through a few Q & As in the mental health section. Seems like an awful lot of people are getting strong antidepressants for stress, of all things. Do you think it's right that doctors prescribe drugs for a condition that would be better dealt with by exercise and a little psychological therapy? Maybe even a good diet with a few well chosen supplements? Are doctors taking the easy way out? Do you think they may be in bed with the big pharmaceutical companies? Maybe doctors are just fed up with lazy patients and giving them what they ask for instead of what's good for them (like a kick in the butt).
