I have NEVER had ANY of those types of reactions. Either has my 14 yr old daughter.
I have been taking Prozac for MANY YEARS! My daughter just stated taking it.
Not everyone reacts the SAME way to medication. I would consider these effects as rare or seldom happening.

Prozac has gotten a bad rap because in the beginning doctors didn't know what some of the side effects could be. I have been on Prozac for over 2 years and it has totally changed and possibly saved my life. The problem is that in some patients Prozac has a reverse reaction of what it is supposed to do. Your doctor should stress that if you start taking the medication and your symptoms get worse stop taking it immediately and contact the doctor. Best of luck.

Hi. Im on Prozac. I find it to be ok, but yeah you do seem tp have more suicidal thoughts or tries to kill yourself. I have gone a couple of weeks without cutting, it just depends on how you cope with the problems you may be dealing with around you. friends, family, etc. Some times friends are not always the answer, so see a medical doctor, or psychiatrist. If you have one or two good friends, its good to reach out and ask for help, but they unfortunately may not understand what you are going through and may have their own problems to deal with at present. But you are not ALONE!!!!! Good luck and may God bless and be with you!

I had a VERY bad reaction to it. It sent me into mania and then a mixed episode and I almost killed myself, but I just found out that i'm bipolar, and anti-depressants can do that to BP people. I also know someone who took Prozac for years, and it's what helped him and he was fine. If you ever go on ANY anti-depressant, just be careful and watch your mood carefully, and make sure there are people looking out for you when you first start or change your dose. I can't make a blanket statement "good or bad" -- it depends on the person an what's really wrong, but I would recommend Prozac before I would an MAOI, so...

If you have been prescribed it, take it.
Sure there have been various reports but remember the slightest side effect or even one case has to be reported.
Prozac has been around for years and is safe, There is always a risk of side effects with any medication and Prozac is no exception. However the risk of serious side effects are minimal and if it works to make you seel better then the benefits outweigh the risk

Oh please please please do not get on this drug. My ex boyfriend was on it and turned into a rageaholic psycho. I was on cellexa (in the prozac family)and it numbed me. Ofcourse the doc is going to tell you that because that is how he makes his money. Sorry to say most docs these days are drug pushers and don't care about your well being. There are natural ways to deal with depression like taking 5-HTP- 50 mg twice a day with Tyrosine and vitamin B complex. You can look online for natural antidepressants. If you eat lots of sugar and or don't work out these simple things can make a huge difference. Taking up yoga will do wonders for anxiety and depression
I feel sorry for my ex. It broke us apart. I don't even know who he is anymore. Please do Not Take this drug. And go to a different doc!!!!Try a naturopath doctor...

The reason for all these things is because it is doing its job-- supressing the symptoms. Does not deal with the cause. Ask doc if FDA only approves of its use for 6 months and no longer. He will say "yes." Ask if he has patients on it for years and he will say "yes." This page has natural alternatives where the only side effect is to make you healthier.
