I fractured my finger and was referred to a surgeon. The first visit turned out OK and recommended surgery. The appt was set after a week but I called & cancelled due to personal health issue. At the 2nd appt (just an office visit) he asked me what happened with me regarding surgery. I explained and apologized. He said he can't reschedule me again until after the holidays about 2 weeks later...I was disappointed only because my finger needed some attention. He then acted what seemed to be "unprofessional". He wasn't concern about my worries or cared to answer my questions. I was basically treated unfairly. No matter what, is it right for a Dr to talk to you any way they want, punish you for cancelling an appt or insult you? He said "you have an independent mind"-"you don't listen!" I am someone who do listen! He misjudged me & I felt mistreated. Should I still see him after all this? Should I ask him why he acted unprofessional? Maybe because I'm a new patient or hes just an a*#ho*#???

I've had it about 8-9 times now (once in the car which was frightening) where I felt suddenly out of it, like I had fainted for a second or lost conciousness (only a really short moment) and then come round again. It seems to happen (I dont know how it could be related) when I breath through my nose rather than my mouth and usually when I'm sitting (either in the car, watching tv or something) Could I be not breathing in enough oxygen or something?

I over heard a doctor saying that young people ( I think he meant 40 and younger) will immediately ask for pain meds, all the time. They seem to relish in their sickness and don't try to get up and go (within reason). He then said that older people (40 and up) don't really like to take pain meds, and are ready to go (within reason) they try harder.

So do you think that younger people just want a quick fix, and refuse to deal with pain and would rather have pain meds even though addiction is a high risk?

Or is that doctor full of bull?

I have this really bad scar on my knees. It all happened last year when i was playing soccer on hard cement path way and i feel. It heeled but was quite tender, afterwards i was running and then i feel on it again. This time i bled and it became a lot darker. Every time i run my fingers along it it feels really hard. It is literally dark coal black. I am really embarrassed about it. At school it is compulsory to wear a dress, all the girls ask what it is, and some even tell me how awful it looks. It never really got to me, i just thought that the scar would eventually fade. A few weeks ago, i decided to go to the doctors, he said that the scar would probably not fade away as i get older since. Its a type of scar that doesnt go away. He said that he could inject it with some stuff to help flatten it out or i could buy these really exspensive cream at the chemist. The doctor said that he cant guarantee that any of these stuff would work. What do i do?

I constantly bite my nails, my lips, the inside of my cheeks, my tongue, and food. I seem to have an oral fixation, a sort of anxious habit, but it is becoming very harmful. My mouth is always sore and often bleeding, yet I cannot stop. My dentist told me that biting the inside of my mouth to extremes is, in a sense, self-mutilation. It has got to stop.

I'm wondering if hypnosis, such as at Positive Changes, could help with my stress management and get rid of my biting? I've read testimonials about people who have stopped biting their nails, but what if mine is more than my nails? I'm also afraid that if I get rid of biting, that my anxious habit will simply transfer to something else, like the people who stop food addictions and become alchoholics. What should I do?
