I fractured my finger and was referred to a surgeon. The first visit turned out OK and recommended surgery. The appt was set after a week but I called & cancelled due to personal health issue. At the 2nd appt (just an office visit) he asked me what happened with me regarding surgery. I explained and apologized. He said he can't reschedule me again until after the holidays about 2 weeks later...I was disappointed only because my finger needed some attention. He then acted what seemed to be "unprofessional". He wasn't concern about my worries or cared to answer my questions. I was basically treated unfairly. No matter what, is it right for a Dr to talk to you any way they want, punish you for cancelling an appt or insult you? He said "you have an independent mind"-"you don't listen!" I am someone who do listen! He misjudged me & I felt mistreated. Should I still see him after all this? Should I ask him why he acted unprofessional? Maybe because I'm a new patient or hes just an a*#ho*#???

Well, he could be seeing it from his perspective- you didn't do what he recommended (surgery) and cancelled an office visit. You hav to realize you aren't his only patient. He has a personal life and other patients to care for. So, he can't get you in until after the holidays.

He could be very frustrated that you didn't follow up (for whatever reason) when things were scheduled. So, in his mind- you don't seem to be understanding the importance of not putting surgery off.

Or he may have been having a bad day. Or you may have taken it wrong.

If you aren't comfortable with him, don't go back. If you trust his medical opinion and want to see him again, go ahead. He is a doctor, but he is still a person. He has medical knowledge, but that doesn't mean he is opinionated, easily annoyed by people and flawless. But you may be reading more into what he said than what he meant.

Either way- go back to him, or don't. There are hundreds of doctors out there who want your business.

Actually he felt mistreated. If he planned surgery for the second visit, he reserved the space for the procedure, had necessary personal scheduled, and 100's of details about which we know nothing. When you cancelled you appointment the reason really made no difference. He had to undo the planning and preparation.

It may not have been handled well and you may want another surgeon. By the time the appoiontment gets here you bone
will be most likely be healed anyway.

No it is not right for a doctor to talk to you any way they want. That's why i stopped going to a certain doctor. They just don't know what to say out of their mouths and if it weren't for us, they wouldn't have a job. I'd try talking to him but if that doesn't help, get a new doc.

You need to treat them honestly and fairly as well and seem to be quite an a*#ho*#??? yourself; good luck with that.
