When I sleep with the heater on I wake up sick, with a stuffy / runny nose, and a sore throat? Is there a reason for that? can it be prevented?
Thanks

Me tooo! I am sick right now and I noticed even before reading this that I always get sick if I fall asleep close to a space heater or stove.

I guess that the reason is because when I wake up next to the heater and go to the next room (which is cooold) there is a fast change of temperature in my body that messes with something, so I get sick.

Prevention would be to not curl up next to the heater. I certainly am not going to ever again.

it sounds like the air is getting too dried out from the heater, this is exactly what happens to us when this happens. depending on the type of heater, if there is room to set a pot of water on top of it then this will help humidify the air. if it's an electric heater or a small space heater, then obviously you don't want to do that. instead you can buy a humidifier - they are pretty cheap - and fill it with water and plug it in before bed. this should help a lot.

Easy solution - don't sleep with the heater on.

Seriously, some heaters make the air too dry. Maybe you should look into a humidifier.

Heat takes moisture out of the air. You can try using a humidifier in your room to add moisture to the air, but I'd recommend having the heat on only enough to keep the air from getting too chilled.

We don't have any heat in our room and sleep very well. Cold air is much better that heated air.

Because it dries out the air and the membranes in your sinuses and throat. You can try using a humidifier. The saline nose sprays also help.
